"The past is a different country they do things differently there," from The Go Between by L.P. Hartley (it makes it even more powerful by being the opening lines), "..and I made up my mind to live, but to wear gloom as a king wears purple..." from De Profundis by Oscar Wilde. I just think that the use of language in these sentences is amazing, I also think that the title of one of my favourite books on art and graphic design history is rather good being Burning the Box of Beautiful Things.

if you start to read this book you will go on a journey with a nine year old boy called Bruno and sooner or later you will arrive with Bruno at a fence. Fences like this exist all over the world. We hope you never have to cross such a fence.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - John Boyne

I cried and cried after reading this - everyone should read it.

I cannot name the book, but I will never forget the quote.

May you always lie, steal and cheat.

Lie in bed at night and count your blessings

Steal all the kisses you can from those you love while you are able.

Cheat the devil out of your thoughts and you soul!
