if what you say is right, your own sentence is wrong, "the plane was caused by to land"?

i think you are mis-informed, due means owed as a debt, or scheduled to do something.

the latter of the two applies to your plane sentence.

"he is due to speak tonight"
"the train is due at 7:30"
