I am sending a package to Ethiopia for the two girls I sponsor. They are 10 and 13. So far I've gotten them shirts and sweatshirts, play-doh, gum with Scooby Doo characters on it, pens with african animals on them, crayons, punch balls (they are those balloon like things you attach to your wrist and punch), and a photo album of my family, and pictures of the two girls and I together when I visited. I went to Ethiopia this summer and I know that I can't get them anything too nice...because it will probably end up being destroyed by them or one of the other 80 kids at the children's home haha.

So what else should I send?? (Don't say food, they get plenty of it at the children's home, and obviously it won't keep).

Shoes, Socks, Panties, tranning bras, deodorant, things for mouth care, books, combs, brushes, pic frame, notebooks, and a journal.
A journal would be great.

God Bless you!

Is it possible that she just saw this as a way to support the guys over there and just maybe get an introduction to a very good guy known by your husband? As I understand it, it is hard to send packages to the guys these days without an actual name and address to send to. This way, an unattached guy will be able to strike up a pen pal relationship based on the recommendation of a friend and the girl has a chance to meet a very solid guy cleared by a friend. Sounds like a good thing for all. When you are in a combat zone, mail is a very big thing in your world. I suspect that if you convey your concerns to your husband without even a hint of accusation to it, all will be fine.

You can still send them food... suckers and treats like that that don't spoil easily. ALL kids should have those! I'm sure they don't get that at the children's home and they would appreciate that. Send them a camera too... maybe a polaroid? Or maybe they could send it back to you to get it developed for them and then you can send the pics back.

You are an awesome person to do this! You know, imagine yourself as those girls... you know when they get this stuff it will make their day!

***Serena gave some good advice... It is the time for "periods" and along with undies you can send some pads. Maybe too personal, but well needed for all females!

What about friendship necklaces or bracelets? Pre-teens like that kind of thing. I also agree the others who answered training bras/panties and hygiene things. Hair brushes and accessories.

Perhaps something they could share with all the other kids, like a great big bag of candy. Or do they have access to a tv with a vcr or dvd player? If so, you could send some great kid movies.

I know this is food but how about some candy with a theme...
candy from around the world
u could go to all the ethnic stores and buy some candy
and tell them where it is from
and then they will get a treat and see what other kids from around the world are munching on

Big bag of hard penny candy so they can share with the other kids. How about something for you! - A 'disposable camera' and a pre-paid self addressed envelope back to you. The kids would have fun taking pictures of each other and their friends. And you would have fun getting them developed and seeing them.

Wow Roz! Good for you!! I also sponsor a child from the Gambia. His name is Adama. How about underwear and shoes. All the little things we take for granted is what they usually need the most. Again WOW! I have so much respect for you!!!

Underwear. Coloring books to go with the crayons you're already sending - or just plain paper.

Some things for hygeine are great to send to them. Like Deodorant and soap, and tooth-brushes and tooth-paste also.Powder you know like girly stuff.
I don't know if they would use it or not maybe if it spelled good but some Sun-Screen is good too.

My son goes to Ethiopia two or three times a year. I've just left him a message - he will call me back and tell me and I will tell you. How cool would it be if you and my son know each other? ♥
