It wont be the week off that hurts them, its going to be Cleveland Pitching and Hitting. They are so strong across the board. Granted The rockies are strong too, but we all know the AL is much much tougher and better all around.

People argue either way on this topic, but to me it won't matter. Just like the USA hockey team in the 1980 Winter Games all young players need is confidence. The Rockies know they can go out there and win everyday because they are playing that well. Once you give a young team confidence in itself....watch out! Helton and Holliday will do their part and Colorado pitching isn't the team to allow 4,5,6 run innings. The major difference between Cleveland and Boston is their bullpens....Colorado has the major edge and that is what has been failing Boston mostly.

NOTHING can hurt the Rockies over this week! Even if they are swept in the World Series, they have proven that ANYTHING can happen in baseball. No one, no expert no amateur no gambler no Rockies' fan, saw them coming and their record over the last 22 games is historical. Chances are they will be just as tough as they have been anyway, but I'm just saying that any team in baseball HISTORY would be proud to do what they have done already.

Excellent point Chipmaker, the media will spin the story to fit the outcome of the game. But in order to answer the question, my personal opinion is that the week off will hurt the Rockies. When you win, you want to keep playing. You can't simulate live pitching and real-game scenarios in practice. You need to keep competing to stay sharp. The Indians and Red Sox are going to be competing all the way through the ALCS. They'll maintain that competitive spirit. The Rockies are going to get relaxed. You need to keep your pitchers warm, and your bats swinging.

When a team is on fire they want to come back the next day and play again, no time off and no rest for their opponents. You can bet that if the Rockies cool down and have problems in the world series many will blame it on the eight days off.

It will slow their momentum....and I am sure they won't "sweep" their opposition.
Training and playing a real game is not the same at all.....nothing prepares you for the pressure and hype of playing for it all.
Rockies could win the series...but I don't think they will walk over the AL opposition as easily as they have done with the NL opposition thus far.

For the sake of sportswriters and talking heads, it is irrelevant. Just spin the story to fit the conclusion.
Rockies win Game 1 -- they were "well rested".
Rockies lose Game 1 -- they were "rusty from the layoff".
If the AL team has to endure a seven-game ALCS firefight, and then wins Game 1, they were "sharp and ready from the field". If they lose, they were "exhausted and sore".
None of which informs anyone of anything, but it fills column inches, and that's the important thing.

it's going to be Indians bats bashing them baseballs all over Coors Field that is going to hurt them. Rockies will not be able to get past Cleveland and Cleveland's bats will love the thin Rocky Mountain air, especially Grady Sizemore.

That really all depends on how the team spends their week. Having that rest period can make ALL the difference in a series, but facing a team hat ahs just come off a win or two can mean your facing a streaking team when you have been off for a while.

yes, it would for anyteam having 8 days off. That and the AL Boston & Cleveland are tough this year too, they are acting like they won it, don't get cocky and underestimate Cleveland or Boston because it's not going to be an easy road.
