When compared to other legal drugs i think that cannabis is harmless.
Smoking tobacco. This can cause cancer and is highly addicitve, but yet is 100% legal to over 18's in England.
Smoking Cannabis can also cause health problems, such as cancer, but isnt highly addcitive, in fact your body doesnt begin to rely on it at all, except from mentally, but if you get into a habit of anything then your body will struggle to anything differently.
Alcohol. I know that when i walk around the streets of swindon and look around i can see countless drunk people causing trouble, detroying property and fighting and they are all drunk. How many stoners do you know that do this BECAUSE of cannabis. i dont know one, and i know many.
Im nearly 18, in full time education, with 100% attendance and am doing very well, i have been bought up around cannabis and have smoked it everyday for over a year. Im a normal person and hate being called a druggy.
what do you think?

"pot makes you an underachieveing loser". No offence, but the person who wrote this is clearly bias. Has this person smoked marajuana for a long period of time? Has this person met successful pot smokers? My mother has smoked pot from the age of 15 and is not 39. She is an apple mac technician. Dont get me wrong, this isnt the most qualified job around, but it proves my point.

"wisdom seeker" this is for you.
Up yours quite frankly.
You have just called me and all of my friends snobs for smoking an illegal substance.
A Snob?
wheres the sense in that.
let me tell you one thing. because of me smoking cannabis, it just so happens that my cousins turned there back on me for no good reason. they accused me of stealing from there household for drugs (which isnt true) and made me out to be a bad person because of something i smoked.
One of my friends who i have known litterally all of my life also turned her back on me because of something i smoked. i have changed as a person yes, but every person does through their lives.
Calling someone a snob because of something that they like doing is stupid.
I think that you and the people who turned there backs on me when i most needed them are snobs.

I don't think alcohol and tobacco are worse than cannabis, I know they are. Tobacco has already been proven to cause cancer as well as many other unwanted diseases. Alcohol isn't bad as far as drinking it ever so often like a 'social' event, but it's addictive after continuous drinking and does cause a lot of problems (and with long-term use deadly diseases). The thing with marijuana is it isn't addictive--some people like to disagree with this, but some also don't understand that there is a difference between wanting to do something because you like it and doing something because you get extreme cravings and withdrawal symptoms without it.
The idea that people that smoke pot are big losers with no lives is a ridiculous statement. I've been smoking pot since I was 16 and my grades never went anywhere but up and I just graduated college with A's and B's. Of course there are going to be people that smoke pot that happen to do nothing with their lives, but then again aren't there people who don't smoke pot that do the exact same thing? People and their stereotypes...
Smoking marijuana hasn't been able to adequately be proven or disproven as far as it causing lung cancer, due to lack of efficient research because of its illegal status in a lot of countries. Researches have been done on marijuana though and the results are usually that they can't find a direct link to marijuana causing cancer (1st link below describes this). The amazing thing is that they also have theories from studies performed that marijuana might actually cure cancer (See 1st link for this as well).
Yet it does seem funny that something that you can't overdose on, hasn't been proven to cause life threatening problems, and isn't addictive would be illegal right? If something is illegal, it is supposed to be because it is considered dangerous to that person or others and is enforced to protect everyone. So why is it illegal? (The 2nd link below describes this). See what people don't understand is that marijuana isn't illegal for the reasons that most have been told or have came to believe, it is illegal for unjust and stupid reasons (For the US anyway). I suggest anyone who thinks they know why it is illegal to read that faq just to be sure, I bet you'd be suprised at the true answer (most people have the completely wrong answer to this question).
The fact is, if anything, marijuana should be used at least for medical purposes. It is the wrong idea people have always been given about marijuana that makes it hard to get it legalized. (also answered in the 2nd link) See marijuana can be used for way more than just medical and recreational purposes, it can be used to make paper, clothes, rope, and fuel. Seems like if we wanted to start saving trees, this would be the way to do it and money for gas prices (link 2 again).
Marijuana myths (3rd link)
I think I've said enough about this, if anyone is truly interested the links are provided so.

My answer is no. A very resounded no. You've got only one word seperating you from those that don't smoke.. and that word is choice. If a person has the right and choice to go out and get shitty drunk, fight, and pass out in their own puke then that's their choice. Alcohol can kill you if you drink too much, and something called Delirium Tremens, or DTs, can occur due to alcohol withdrawl.
There has NEVER, and let me put it in a time frame, EVER, been anyone who has died from overdose of marijuana because it is simply impossible. There has also been no documented cases of Cancer linked to marijuana. The LD limit for marijuana is that you've have to smoke a pound a minute for fifteen minutes straight, and it would be lack of oxygen that would eventually kill you, not the pot. A lot of people say that smokers of pot are listless and unmotivated, well, I'm a writer, activist, and I'm high right now.. so I hope that helps.

There is nothing wrong with it. for some reason it has a really bad reputation. usually the reasoning is they say it is a 'gateway drug' that means that most people who smoke pot also do coke so make pot ill eagle and people wont smoke crack.
That is like saying make oreos illegal so that people don't use the milk to dip them. kinda stupid.
or making knives illegal because people might stab other people and it is a gateway weapon to a gun.
I myself have not smoked it it 20 years but i don't see the harm. the effects are not permanent and any short term memory loss returns when they stop using it.
Sending people to jail and prison for pot is insane. three strikes and they are in prison for life over pot. That is a waist of resources.
Not to mention I have never felt threatened by a pot head; they are usually too busy warming a frozen burrito in the microwave to get into real trouble.

This is an interesting topic, and I kind of agree with you. I smoked pot more so in high school, but I don't anymore. Personally, I just don't like how I feel when I do it. But lots of people I know smoke it everyday, and they are perfectly functioning people. It's different for everybody.
But when compared to all other recreational drugs, I think pot is the least harmful (opposed to coke, meth, etc.) It just seems like such a common thing that it doesn't bother me at all.

I have bitter memories of the snobbery that takes hold of the groups of people that indulge in this. All of a sudden 'friends' and cousins that I had in grade 8 became nasty snotty snobs in grade 9 and forward because they were part of this culture. I became outed because I was in the minority in my high school that wasn't part of a smoking or drinking group. I think the drugs you describe create an elitism amongst users of alcohol and marijuana that outs non users fairly consistently. This is the 'harm' that I assert ocurrs and that you insist does not. But these drugs blind and deafen you to the snob that you become when you indulge. When was the last time you indulged next to a non user and the non user was completely comfortable as well as you? Chances are one of you tensed up because the snobbery would not tolerate the idea, would not hear of it ,...t o have a non user present, as a friend. Even designated drivers can often attest to this snobbery that I demand that you look at before you make this elitist drug culture judgement that it is harmless compared to alcohol. I hate that it separates friends and makes people bristle when they aren't aware of their own bristling. Trust me this is a nasty amotivational psychologically addictive drug. It will eventually get you. It will change your life one way or another.

The logic behind the negative replies is appalling. Anything you do "non-stop" is usually bad for you. And to point to "lung disease" as a reason while cigarettes are legal is beyond reason.
And these sweeping generalizations about pot taking away ambition or making you a loser are stated by ill-informed automatons. People like Carl Sagan and Kurt Vonnegut were well known tokers, as is almost any successful rock or jazz musician. Are they "losers?"
As long as you are a moderate user the negative effects are minimal. Certainly less than cigarettes and alcohol, or even the way prescription medicines are currently abused.

I think that you are right. I believe that health wise. Alcohol and Tobacco can cause way more health risks than Marijuana. With that being said. If they were to legalize it worldwide it would cut down on deaths from Cigarettes and from alcohol. Why would you do such a thing. Ha. Also. there is no way to control the local growing and distribution of Mary-J. And Governments cannot tax something that they cant control. very good question.

I did my senior thesis at Gonzaga U on this subject. i could write forever on this.
It is not nearly as harmful as alcohol or tobacco. death rates, addiction rates, and health risks....all point to cigarettes being the most destructive. alcohol and alcoholism is 2nd. marijuana is, reletively, harmless.
as the history channel will tell you, the marijuana tax act was inacted to send mexicans back to mexico. it just so happens that tobacco and alcohol were white man's vices so they were made legal.
by making drugs more harmful to marijuana legal, there is really little to no argument to make against the taxation and legilization (or at least the decriminilaztion) of marijuana.
we spend about 9 billion a year to clothe, house and feed those in prison for possession of marijuana. not the sale or distribution mind you, but just the possession. insane. i can think of some better things to do with 9 billion. can't you?

Not harmless, but definitely the lessor of the evils. Yes I agree.
Only problem is laziness and achieving your potential and focus. These are all affected by smoking the pot...but ain't nothing on the friggin planet that help my monthly evilness (pms) like a nice bowl.

There all harmful and addictive. Though weed is the lesser of the evils. Over time weed does effect you, it causes depression and weight gain. Also, the new trend of smoking blunts is worse then smoking a pack of cigarettes. In moderation weed could be used for a healthy life style because of the coming effect it has. A lot of people associated weed as a gate way drug and for a lot of people it is. They eventually get bored of being "stoned" and travel onto some other kind of drug.
Alcohol is one of the worse drugs. A detox for a heavy drinking could kill them.
