First thing you want to do is determine if anything important is located inside the wall (electric lines, plumbing, ventilation, ect.). Easiest way I know to do this is to take a hammer and punch a channel through from one end to the other on just one side of the wall so that you can visually inspect that nothing is inside that you have to be careful about. If the way is clear, then use a reciprocating saw with a long enough blade to reach entirely through the wall and start at one end and cut all the way through to the other. By several blades, the plaster is probably going to dull them quickly. I'd also get a very good dust mask and surround the area with plastic or your entire house will be coated with plaster dust. If the floors are going to stay the same, then putting down something to protect them would also be a very good idea. If possible cut a little towards the top of the wall so that what is left after you knock down the bottom part isn't too big to handle by hand. Good Luck.

First borrow or buy a pipe/cable detector & check your wall.
If there are pipes or cables work around them using a club hammer.
If you are taking both sides out, work from both sides individually.
Relocate pipes or cables.
If the timber is stubborn start by sawing through one upright, then pull or hammer the others out.

Invite all your friends round with their hammers, have a wall bashing party, with drinks flowing.
PS. You can have another party to clear the mess, just don't expect anyone to come to that one.

Drill a large hole in it, then prize it away from the timber frame. Don't smash it up, you will be breathing plaster dust for days.

slowly, and with a saw or Stanly blade, find your joist first and then work out where the door is going.
just think with your brain and not with your hammer
