the best way to learn is to do and watch. pay attention to details when you watch actors. how do they change their expressions? what does their voice sound like? you can learn a lot from watching and imitating the masters. watch actors from different genres, from Humphrey Bogart to Meg Ryan to Fred Astaire to Scooby Doo. Even if you're not a romantic actress or a cartoon character, you can learn a ton about expression and conveying emotion.

Speaking of conveying emotion, crying on cue is one of the most difficult skills to master. To some, it comes naturally. Others need lots of practice. the biggest thing to remember is WHY you're crying. people cry differently when their cat gets run over than when their boyfriend breaks up with them or when they win an Oscar. The best actors can actually feel the way their character does. (just be sure not to lose yourself completely in the character, actors go crazy that way)

but study alone won't make you a good actor. you need to act with others too. find an acting troupe or a community theatre to act with. do little skits and plays. this will help you get comfortable interacting with different people and groups and adjusting quickly to different scenarios. adaptability, pantomime, quick wit, good sense of emotions and improv are invaluable tools to an actor.

1. get your parents to agree that you should become an actress. 2. do all the drama stuff and plays at school. 3. get a mentor. 4. take professional lessons, 5. be in more plays and do guided reading 6. prepare resume and head shot, 7. try to get an agent.

An actress needs to be a nice person and know how to act. In my free mentoring I teach both of those things. Read my profile and contact me at my aol address when your folks agree you should be an actres.

I agree that you should enroll in some type of class or workshop. You'll learn tons there.
Also, it is important to discover your OWN acting technique; what works best for you. Don't worry too much about what other people have to say about how to act.
Personally, I don't like using a structured "acting method" but It might be a good place to start.
Do some research on Stanislavski and Michael Chekhov. Its pretty interesting stuff and might help you.

:) have fun

You asked for advice, here it is:

You cannot learn to act from "tips". You need personal instruction. That means a class or private lessons, not passive reading of websites and watching of television.

If you're serious about acting professionally, you'll seek out the instruction. If you're not, you won't.

Theatre Doc and Helene are right. I would also add that you audition for as many shows or parts as possible locally and just practice. I have found that actors improve when they practice their trade more and more and work a variety of directors and other actors.

You need to take a scene study class. Acting may seem easy when you watch shows on the CW, but it's a skill that takes a lifetime to perfect.

Stop asking questions. Enroll in an acting class so you can get first-hand information. The best acting technique is the one you will be taught by your acting teacher. You are not ready for an agent. Don't worry about it. It will be years before you are ready to audition for an Agent. Monologues: Ask the students in your acting class. You are not ready for monologues. (4) don't worry about it, you are not ready. (5) Not important. 6. Ask your acting teacher, that's the reason you're spending time and money with him/her. 7. don't worry about it. 8. You're not ready for an audition tape. 9. You need 10-12 years of acting lessons. 10.

The best tip you could get would be to get yourself into a class. That's really what a person would do who is serious about acting.
