I have a partition wall which is joined to a brick chimney flue. Along the join some movement has occured and caused a large crack which protrudes out. I've taken some of the loose plaster off and the lathes seem fine. My question is do I fill the crack and try to make good with it or board and replaster it? I'd prefer to be able to do it cheap but I don't want the crack to reappear.

If you patch up the crack it will just reappear.
The standard width of a sheet of plasterboard is 1.2m, so remove the plaster back that far along the wall. Use a stanley knife to score the old plaster and a long spirit level as a straight edge. Leave the lathes on the stud work and nail a sheet of plaster board over them, by leaving the lathes on the stud work, the plasterboard should be almost flush with the old plaster. All you need to do next is tape the joints and fill, with any luck you won't need to skim the wall if you do a neat enough job. Wall paper/backing paper will cover up any blemishes.
Good luck

plaster board over the wall taking off any skirting board first if you get tapered edge board put fibre tape along the joins and then re plaster the wall this is the quickest way to do it and probably the cheapest

I'd be more concerned about why the movement
has occurred? Its it gradual, over years, or has the
crack appeared quickly.
If the later, get the foundations and framing looked at.
