It was very well fed and then went next door under their decking. Put poison and traps down but no result. Does this suggest it was just a visitor and not a resident? What is it feeding on? I do not think it is from the Chinese take a way as the year of the rat is next year.

catch it, and put it's urine on your head to make your hair grow back. (yes i read your previous question, i am not just suggesting this as a sensible action.)

They are very hard to get rid of since you have a garden with so much food for them. They make very elaborate tunnels under the ground, and it would be wise to find those holes. If you can find one or two of them, you can drop a rat poison tablet down into the hole. Make sure it goes all the way down, and then put a rock on it so the dogs can't get to it. The rats will still be able to get out, but not in that same place. The problem is there is seldom only one rat. They reproduce very quickly. All of your neighbors have to pull together to get rid of them. I assume you have the small country rats, as opposed to those city ones that are the size of cats? It takes work, but you can do it.

Call the local environmental health office. They will come out & put poison down in a container that will encourage the rat to feed, then it goes away & feeds the poison to his friends & family then dies. You may need a couple of visits from the EHO though if there are lots of rats

Contact your local environmental health department. If you put poison down, you should check around the area for any rat carcasses......they really smell bad if they're not disposed of properly. This is the only problem with decking; it looks very nice on the outside....but what lies beneath can be quite nasty!!! Decking provides just the sort of habitat that rats thrive in!

You just need to secure any tiny openings around your home like underneath vents or cracks from fireplace etc. Are there any fruit trees nearby? OR pet food put out? They like grains. They are more scared of you than you of them. There are havahart traps. They are cages that you bait with food and once the rat enters, the door shuts on them and you may relocate in a more wilderness area.

SCREAM, RUN INDOORS, JUMP ON TOP OF A CHAIR AND WAIT!!!!!!!!! LOL
No seriously you must call the council and they will come n sort it for you. As others have said, they breed, fast and produce loads. Don't leave any food lying about in bags outside and if possible try and find out where its come from. check your garden for rat holes, if it keeps going into your neighbours garden just let them know as they may be unaware of it. Good Luck x

I had this problem at my old house and we called the councils pest control and they sorted it with 2 visits. Its a sad fact that in any London garden you are never more than 6 feet away from a rat. They can be feeding anywhere, not necessarily in your own garden

It might be a good idea to buy one of those gadgets that emit high frequency sound waves and put one in your living room and one in the kitchen. At least they won't come into the house.I have got them and they work.We had two rats in our garden but both had been poisoned and were looking for a dark place to hide and die.We found them both in our garage.Dead.

Call environmental health at your local council.....Chinese Restaurants are notorious for storing food ie bean shoots etc outside it could be encouraging rats and mice to the area....
