I also was never very fast with the keyboard in school. I find that when i type a lot, i can get up to about 35-40 wpm, but i'd say i average about 20 wpm. Sometimes, like this past week, my fingers are just being difficult and not moving to the right keys, so I have had to watch them type which kinda slows the process down a bit.

I never learned to use my pinkies though. I use my index through ring finger on the left and the thumb through middle fingers on the right. oh and every now and then, maybe a right pinky to push the shift key.

my only experience of typing is using the computer. an hour a week in the last two years of school and that was mostly learning spreadsheets and stuff that i have now forgotten!! since using y/a my typing has got faster slightly, but i tend to keep my eyes looking at the keys and not the screen. also some words feel awkward with my fingers. i am left handed. i have always wondered if this made a difference to how easy it is???

I took typing in high school and learned on a Remington Manual. The keys were stiff and you had to stop to push the carriage back to next line...couldn't type fast at all. When electric typewriters came into being I got a lot faster. A lot depends on how soft the keyboard is...as long as you know the proper strokes...

Those programs are crap. I tryed them. SO, I decided heck with it. I got on the net started IM and e-mail and blogging and I typed up stories and I learned to type that way. I can type like a whole paragraph with my eyes closed? How. Well from using the keyboard so much I have it memorized. But, remember. 1st if you use a laptop style keyboard its MUCH easier. Why? because the keys are smaller and flatter so when you type you just have to tap a button, compare to a regualar keyboard where you gotta push the buttons down. AND the closer you keep your finger to the keyboard the faster you can do it. But, that's what I do everybody's different.

I can even type quite fast with one hand. :)

I improved in my typing skills the most when I started at jobs that required a lot of typing, documentation, emailing, etc. I went from 40 words per minute out of typing class with about a 90% accuracy, to 120+ words per minute (current) with over 99% accuracy.

When I was in high school....20 years ago.......I could not type to save my life. Then I got a computer about 2 years ago and was one of those two-finger typist.....slowly I got better. I can now type 70-80 words a minute and my daughter thinks I am AWESOME because I don't have to look at the keys anymore.

My mum made me take typing at school, she said it was a skill I could always fall back on and she was right!

I can touch type sometimes fast if I fall into the right rhythm.

Other days it just doesn't come together so easier to type with two fingers. lol
