Yes. These have been crafted just to coax mankind on the way of humanity. But there is some intreguing aspect to these stories as well that what they teach or suggest has real value. For example-story of the Greedy Dog. Too much greed in real life puts us in real trouble. Also the outcomes of our deeds as sited in the epics like the Ramayana , Mahabharta are true. A man of character is fearless and every one respects him in society and is a real asset. So, may be that the Great Poets and writers in the past have just put thier vast experience in words for the world.

"our" as in, you, in general, a culture, a race, state, country or what?.... Hammered myths that we believe all because someone decided to write about it?
