My son was born in the relatively *tiny* Caerphilly Miners Hospital. Lovely little place, small team of midwives. All very local, homely and cosy. Spotlessly clean, good food, great care. Couldn't have asked for better. My son was even delivered by the local community midwife who'd been caring for me from the start of my pregnancy! I even got my own ensuite room!
In a few years I can guarantee it will be closed. The same happened to the Cardiff Royal Infirmary.
Now everyone will be sent to the University Hospital of Wales which is huge, understaffed and quite frankly, grotty. When I inspected the maternity unit there prior to having my baby I was disgusted. It was dirty, the toilets stank, the whole place was shabby and in need of a clean and it was obviously understaffed.
What is the benefit of closing our local hospitals and forcing everyone into these huge leviathan institutions where personal, one to one care and even hygiene is impossible?

the little hospitals dont make money its sad but the simple answer PFI's are there to get managment companies in to make it 'work' now we have super bugs unemployed medical staff, staff cut backs and staff working back to back shifts to cover it.
Unfortunatly they dont seem to understand hospitals arent there to make money! ( well no in the UK un less their private)

You must remember every man, woman and child is a digit, if these digits do not conform to some financial spreadsheet then tough, the government of the day will close the hospital. Another theory is, small hospitals only have a small number of administrators and fat cats, the government can't justify paying them any more money so they have to be moved to a larger hospital so that the budget for that hospital can be increased, this way they can shout about the billions that are being spent on the NHS , but not on the nursing staff.

They did the same in Worcestershire - first Bromsgrove General Hospital became a Community Hospital, then they turned on Kidderminster General and found they'd bitten off rather too much.
Real true blue Brits are the Kidderminster people - they chucked out their Labour MP, set up a new party called "Health Concern" and elected one of the Hospital Consultants, Richard Taylor to be the MP.
It is known, officially, in Parliament as "The Kidderminster Effect".
Richard was returned to office at the next General Election, too, the only Independent to have that honour.
If one small area (it affected Stourport, Bewdley and surrounding villages) can do it, why can't the rest of you?
Where is the fighting spirit that won us Wars?
You need to send a message to London -
"Don't push us, Sunshine!"

Having working in the hospital system for 8 years and left it, I will tell you why. Illegal Immigration and Medi-Cal. Illegal's treat our medical system like it's a get medical care free card. So there is $0 re imbursement for bills that can run up ward to the millions of dollars. And medical will only re imburse only up to a certain percent of the bill and the hospital and medical provider has to write off the remainder of the bills. If any other business were to operate consistantly at losses they would go out of business. Why wouldn't you think this would be true for your medical provider?
The only people getting rich in the medical field are cosmetic/plastic surgeons, dentists and orthodontists because they are a cash up front business.

Governments believe that more effective use of scarce resourceswill be achieved if medical personnel provide their services in larger hospitals. They hope to save considerable sums of money from NHS budgets but fail to realise that they will be failing to provide for the needs of the majority of residents who reside in rural areas. Many of those people at risk are old, poor and disadvantaged.

They can't keep large, city hospitals in places like London from loosing billions of pounds, keep them clean, or hire competent staff for them, so how are they supposed to keep small ones running? They have mismanaged the health service for too long, and now the government is having to close these small yet vital services to pay for it.

Decode this lyrics " Without you"
Why close it?
What can happen in the middle of the night?
When there is an emergency that need their services?
How to go all the way to big cities.
May be DOA?
It's not just " Money,money,money" but survival?
What do you think?
