I'm 26 years old, normal weight 9stone, not hairy or spotty, normal periods b4 going on the pill and during! TTC for 4 months and always knew something wasnt quiet right. Went to the doctors and they did some blood work and found the LH was a little high- went for a scan and found I have PCOS. I went home and cried and cried I just felt so depressed because I wanted a baby so much. After speaking to alot of people I found out alot of women do have it and go on to have children, with little problems. I am just waiting to be referred back to the NHS hospital to start treatment. They have suggested clomid injections. If any women with PCOS have any postive stories to getting preggs could you share it with me? And what is it like to be on that treatment? Thanks x

I am also 26 and have PCOS...I also have a very healthy 9 month old daughter.

I was diagnosed when I was 17 and was flat out told I would probably never have children. I refused to believe that, since I knew that one day I wanted to be a mother and I was going to do what I had to do to have a child of my own.

I did a LOT of research about PCOS and learned as much as I could about it. I eventually found a doctor who was willing to run more tests and prescribe metformin for treatment. I never tried clomid...I never had to, the metformin along with diet and exercise did it for me.

I suggest you do as much research about PCOS as possible, you can also join a forum where other women who are going through the same thing as you are willing to talk and help you out. I used to use www.soulcysters.com and a few others I can't remember right now.

I wish you the best of luck TTC...it's going to be a rough road emotionally and physically, but just work at it and one day you will have your precious baby in your arms just like I do.

Feel free to email me if you have any other questions or need to talk more about it.

there is absolutely hope. i don't have a success story, but am getting ready to try clomid myself, after having been on metformin. women with pcos are fertile we just need a little help ovulating. most women with pcos will get pregnant. do your research b/c treatment can make all the difference in the world. i spent a lot of tie finding the right doctor and doing research. here are somethings you should know:
1) clomid is usually the first line of treatment but may thin the uteruine lining or make cervical mucus thick. doc may prescribe and estrogen patch to help. also plain robitussin with lots of water through the day of ovulation will help.
2) if clomid alone does not work then adding metformin or dexamethason might help without having to increase the dose of clomid. basically you want to conceive on the lowest dose of clomid.
3) do not take clomid for more than 3 - 6 months. my doc thinks after 3 months you should take a break b/c i can think the uterine lining and it has the potential to act as a contraceptive
4) most likely clomid will work but if not then you will move on to injectable meds which have a very high success rate.
keep the faith. you will hold your baby in your arms soon.

I'm 28 years old. I was diagnosd with PCOS back in March. i went to my regular general doctor complaining of my irregular periods, and was concerned about how not getting my period more than a few times a year was going to hurt my chances of getting pregnant. After some testing, I went to an OBGYN eventually diagnosed me with PCOS. I was devastated to say the least. When I called my husband I couldn't even say the word, I would sob every time I would try to tell him. I slowly realized through research that it is not a diagnosis of infertility, that there are many options out there for women with PCOS. I was immediately started on Clomid.

Here I am six cycles of Clomid later ready to burst with joy as the lab confirmed my pregnancy!! I am not even four weeks yet, but have had two positive HPTs and one positive blood test. I'm going for a second one on Thursday to make sure that the levels are rising as they should.

It can happen, don't lose hope. Go to your doctor, take their advice, and most of all educate yourself on PCOS. A great site with lots of information is http://www.soulcysters.com they even have a list of books you can buy to read. I bought a Patients Guide to PCOS. It was very helpful, discussed a diet, the causes, the symptoms, and included stories from women with PCOS.

Clomid is in pill form. You take it for five days at the beginning of your cycle...4-8, 3-7, 5-9.....it can vary from doctor to doctor what exact days you take it. I dealt with vaginal dryness, hot flashes, mood swings, and this last cycle headaches. I puirchased Preseed to deal with vaginal dryness, and just suffered through the other symptoms. they weren't that bad, and well worth it if your doctor thinks that you need it!!

Good luck and baby dust your way!!!!!!

I've heard of any women with PCOS going on to have children. I think it depends on your situation and what you respond to. Follow doctor's orders and see where it takes you. I bet there's a ton of stuff out there to read about PCOS and prospects for getting pregnant. Good luck!

Hang in there!! I was also told it'd be near impossible to get preg and it took me two years to get pregnant... but don't let that deter you. Just keep pestering your doctor (for what you can afford) I actually got pregnant when I took a month off from the herbs I had been taking. Then surprise!, I got pregnant again when my DD was only 1 year old.
