With all due respect sir educating the public will never be on the government's to do list as a uneducated populations is a pliable population. In case you have not noticed, the government is much happier, and much more able to achieve their agenda when the people are easily manipulated into believing it is the "right choice".

Why do Republicans prefer to give government handouts to corporations? Heck, if I was a corporation I'd be pouring money into the Republican campaigns for all the bailouts, tax loopholes and handouts they'd give me. How about force corporations to compete and earn for themselves instead of suckling at the governments teat?
Is that OK Republicans, or is any idea that forces corporation to actually DO something for their money a "violation of their rights"? For that matter, why should corporations be given rights like they were an actual person?

I don't think that Democrats want to give away handouts, for the most part.
A big point of conflict between Democrats and conservatives (notice, not Republicans, necessarily) is that Democrats think that more money should be pumped into the education system, whereas many conservatives think that providing more funding to an already failing school system is not the solution.
Instead, some conservatives wish to introduce more accountability and competition into school systems, and to one day free schools from the bureaucratic yoke that teachers unions have placed on their shoulders.

It is all about dependency. The handouts, or better wording to make it sound less lazy and scum worthy of "assistance" for people who do not take jobs seriously nor life seriously. If they see that the democrats will give something to them for free, since welfare, food stamps and everything else is not enough. Why not allow the government to raise and take care of their children as well? And that would give the woman more "freedom" too so she can kick the father out of the family and collect more free money from him via child support on top of free government money.
So what will happen is the democrats will give handouts every so often when the masses start riling up and seeing them for what they truly are, so to appease them they will give either a hike in free money or another free handout to keep them happy until the next riling.
If the democrats can get a majority of Americans dependent on them, they will grow use to it and if voted out they will be left stranded by themselves, having live on their own with no more gratuitous handouts if republicans should get back in.
Democrats in a whole do not believe in self responsibility. They just want power and make a whole nation weak and dependent on them to keep it.

We like education. That's why we get them. So we can form cohesive arguments and not frankly bizarre rants based on stereotypes, erroneous assumptions and convoluted conclusions.
I agree we should be working hard to get people off welfare. But until we improve our schools (and that means giving them more MONEY...paying teachers better...discarding the "no child left behind" B.S. that requires students to do nothing but standardized testing), it's not going to happen. We also need to offer affordable childcare to women with children so they can work. And that takes MONEY. We need to make sure that we are offering less educated workers a living wage (or else, why would they bother getting off welfare when they can be poor and do nothing rather than work their butts off for minimum wage and still be poor?), and that takes MONEY.
Government money, based on taxes. I know reality isn't a concept most conservatives are familiar with, but when you cut one federal assistance program, all you do is move the burden to another one.
You cannot change human nature. There will always be high school drop-outs. There will always be slackers. There will always be people who have children they can't afford. There will always be older people who don't save for retirement. Since we can't let poor children starve, and since we can't let old people die in the gutters because they can't afford food and medicine, public assistance is NEVER GOING TO GO AWAY.
Deal with it.

you're a bit confused. you're trying to dig on democrats, yet we're the ones who actually try to improve schools! also, i don't think you understand how hard it is to make something of yourself when you have nothing! i can't even begin to explain these difficulties, and i've had it pretty good! yeah, us democrats do want people to be more educated, and work hard themselves to get ahead in life. but sometimes people need help doing this. yeah, sure, it backfires more frequently than we would like, but isn't it worth the risk? not everyone can go to private school. honestly, i think you're a bit confused as to what a democrat stands for. try looking at voting records between the two party's when it comes to funding for public schools.

The largest handouts have been coming from, and going to, the Republicans. You cannot force anyone to do anything, but the right has been shgouting that the left wants to give away the treasury while it is the right that has been raiding it all along.

Don't delude yourself with partisan propaganda. All politicians from the mainstream parties (save Ron Paul and othe libertarians) give handouts to their respective base voters. You should even be angrier at the GOP who give corporate welfare in the guise of tax credits or no-bid contracts to their cronies or 'bridges to nowhere in Alaska'
I guess is that you won't because most supporters of either of the politcal parties buy into the BS. A pox on both their houses!

You have a lot of false assumptions about Democrats embedded in your question but I do agree that education should be a higher priority and that education should remain freely available to all Americans.
That's a very progressive idea. Glad to see you're embracing it!

That is one point everyone can agree on. Now, if you can just convince our politicians to give the funds that were appropriated to our schools to the schools, we could improve the education system. Until then, we are stuck in a vicious cycle.
