The commentator said that it was because the England player went in at the side, but it looked to me as if the ball was out. It was about 18 inches to the side of any of the players. I know that if the ball is in the middle of a ruck you can't go into the side, but it did look like the ball was free. Please can somebody explain it to me.

Tony R - I'm not complaining. I'm thrilled to bits. I was just trying to understand the rule. The commentator didn't could see it clearly, and he said that it WAS a penalty, and not a mistake by the referee. That is why I've asked about the rule.

Jeff Blondin - It was such a close game. 10 mins before the end I thought France had it.....especially when they almost scored that try in the 68th minute. I watched the game with a lot of French people, and they were devastated. I feel for you.
