My favorite Japanese name is for a girl. It is:
Amai
it means the sense a well-loved child has of being cherished by her parents.
I love that meaning.

Other Japanese names I like:
Girls:
Aiko
Aneko
Dai
Jin
Keiko
Kioko
Leiko
Mariko
Nari
Ruri

I don't know if they are common or not. I taught ESL for a while and those were some of my japanese students.

Try watching some Japanese anime. They use a variety of authentic names as opposed to the ones you might find on websites that are most likely "Americanized."

Just consider that if you are caucasian, calling yourself "Mariko" might be a little odd.
