Nancy Pelosi and the rest, are trying to pass a resolution condeming the Ottoman empire for the massacre of Armenians over 100 years ago. The Turkish poeple are angry about this. We have decent relations with Turkey now. Why are they trying to hurt our Relations with them?

Because they are so hell bent on making the Reps look bad and/or stop the war that they are willing to put are troops in harms way by throwing gasoline on the flame of contention in the Middle East.

Admittedly the Armenian Genocide was long ago, but Turkey continually denies that it even happened, saying it was only a war and was massively blown out of proportion. Ask a German if the Holocaust was true and they will admit it right off and say it was a horrible thing. Turkey is just trying to deny it and even is hiding and changing evidence of the crime. It was long ago, (But not 100 years) but still very wrong. If they cannot admit their mistake, it only makes it more likely to happen again, this time the Kurds maybe.
Hurting relations based on this is very appropriate.

Back in 1915 the Armenian people were slaughtered the same as the Jews were 30 years later. Both are called genocide. These are just facts of history and nothing can change the truth. It's just really the truth. President Bush wants to pretend the Armenian genocide didn't exist so he can use Turkey for military purposes, but it DID exist. That's reality. Yet he uses the genocide of the Jews 30 years later as a pretense to be in Iraq to protect Israel. Luckily reality overcomes his power purposes....and facts are facts...it was genocide. Go cold turkey on tripe for Thanksgiving and look in a history book for truth.

The actions taken by this Democratic Congress accomplish the falling goals for them:
1.) It makes them feel good. By passing a useless resolution condemning a clear act of genocide that took place almost 100 years ago, Leftists (who control the Democratic party) soothe their ego with the self-delusional claim of opposing aggression.....despite the fact that almost everyone even remotely related to this event is dead.

2.) It attempts to shift the negative media attention away from them following the "Petraeus/Betray-Us" MoveOn.Org ad fiasco.

3.) It undermines the efficiency of our military logistics, thus the war effort, in Iraq. The Democratic Congress has repeatedly failed to cut back funding so as to gain a pull out date, and they lack the political will to pull our troops out en masse. This resolution against Turkey (which I think is accurate, though extremely untimely and now irrelevant) is designed to indirectly curtail the war effort. The Democrats have abandoned their reliance upon domestic political tools and have taken up using international incidents (whether real or concocted) to further degrade the public support for the war.

I hope the Democrats know what they are doing, because recent historical trends in Turkey make this resolution far more volatile than I think the Dems consider.
Professor Samuel P. Huntington stated in 1993 that Turkey was a "border entity" of the Islamic civilization. It has historically persisted in trying to Europeanize itself and thus gain access to the EU, but has been all but rejected. This has made Turkey (the only true secular Islamic country) reconsider its' allegiance to the European model. Within the past couple of years, Islamic forces have been making inroads within Turkey's culture. When Operation Iraqi Freedom erupted in 2003, Turkey surprised the US by denying the use of its ports, roadways and airspace to US forces (this was later corrected, but it did hinder the invasion plan). Since than, Turkey has found itself more in allegiance with Islamic theocracies than Western democracies. As a border entity, this balancing act puts it at risk for conflict.
By introducing this resolution now, Congress may tip Turkey into the Islamic camp. For a party that wants troops out of Iraq, this action would most likely result in more troops being sent in. And once one country invades Iraq, what would stop Iran, Syria, or Jordan from moving in?
The Leftists need to think long and hard about how desperate they are to score some political points. If they place politics above national security, than maybe our political culture has become irreparably corrupt.

Another bad decision in the ever growing list of bad decisions put forth by a Democratic Controlled Congress. Anything to score political points. They have sold their souls to the devil.

Actually the are just honoring one of George W. Bush campaign pledges.

George Bush wanted to show he was tough and had a spine. Why so worried about Turkey now?

Did you conservatives loose your spine? Afraid of Turkey now too?

Given enough time, the Dems will have EVERYBODY pissed off.
Why attack important issues when you can pass nonbinding resolutions? That way you can make it look like you're doing something important.
