Stalin was the General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party from 1922 to 1953, which meant he was the leader of the USSR during World War II.

In the war, he's best known for:

- Having a non-agression pact with Nazi Germany at the beginning of the war (in exchange for agreeing to leave Germany alone, the USSR got half of Poland).

- Fighting back when Hitler broke the pact in 1941 and invaded the USSR, making it all the way to the outskirts of Moscow.

- Fighting back again when Nazi Germany laid siege to Stalingrad (now called Volgograd), because he didn't want a city with his name on it to be defeated.

- Bringing Eastern Europe into the Soviet sphere of influence following the war, which resulted in the creation of the Iron Curtain and the division of Germany (and Berlin) into East and West segments.
