if companies nowadays no longer offer pension plans and most people do not know how to invest their 401k?

Even if you do invest, it doesn't always offer a high return.

You might say, "Well everyone needs to save their money". That is easier said then done with the high costs of living.

And Social Security will be dry by the time I will need it.

So those of you Con's who are against government "handouts," what are your plans to make ends meet when you are retired? Are you already wealthy and aren't worried about it? Do you plan on working until the day you die or will receiving government handouts then be okay?

If we eliminate income tax and restore the dollar to a fixed standard, whether it is gold, silver, platinum or some other valuable substance, people will have enough money to save for their retirement without the worry that inflation will destroy the value of their savings. Government plans are only there to make you rely on government and thus be a servant/slave of the corporate controlled government.

I am a 57 yr old divorced woman. I made my money slowly by starting a busness (a sign shop) after I retired as a nurse.
I bought a cheap house back in the 70's and turned it over for a decent profit. Then 7 years ago I bought a 40 acre horse property at a great price and the land has doubled in value. In my opinion, you can't find many investments that have a return like "buying dirt" .
I am a conservative- I don't rely on handouts and I won't count on SSI being there for me in my golden years. I take care of my 84 yr old mom so she doesn't have to worry about handouts either.
Don't panic or get discouraged- you are never too old to educate yourself and come up with a long term retirement plan. Talk to older friends and see what advice they can offer.
It's not too difficult if you stay away from credit cards and live within your means. I believe the whole key is taking responsibility for yourself now and in the future. Don't count on any government plan to take care of you.
The very best to you- msg if you need to chat more :)

Most Cons aren't AGAINST Government handouts. :)

We're only against them for those who do not truly NEED the handouts. And , the system you Libs established, is RIFE with that abuse.

Now, we also wanted to Privatize part of SS, so you could make your own decision on how to invest your retirement money, for those individuals who do not HAVE a 401 K, or other type plan.

You Libs killed that too. :) Matter of public record.

I will be fine accepting Government handouts, IF I need them. I don't anticipate I will. No, I am not rich. Middle class at best. But I do not whine about the redistribution of weath that I did not WORK for, as most of your party does.

SS will not be dry, as long as we can keep YOUR party from making any more changes. EVERY major change and tap made to the SS program, since its inception, has been made by the DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Again, matter of public record.

:)

Nice try. Play agin.

Convince them to save some of their pay while they're working. My grandfather, even during the Depression, put away $10 of his paycheck whenever he worked. My father, who is now 80, also saved. Both had/has three children while doing it. If you spend everything you have while you're working, you end up needing handouts when you're older.

I'm saving my money, and I make less than my liberal friends. They go out a lot and waste money on things they don't need. My bank account is doing nicely, they struggle to pay rent. Saving means saving, not spending and wondering where your money goes. At some point, cost of living exists, but at another you decide what that cost is.

Cause we actually worked for our living. We were not like the lazy people of today. We earned out SS and military money. We don't need to be coddled like so many has to.

Yeah we are already wealthy. We have never had any kind of pension plan. Quit charging up your cards and save your money. Why should the public be responsible for others that don't plan ahead?

I hope that you have already started investing in your own personal IRA. Tax deductible until you start drawing it out at retirement.
