I think nicklback stinks but I could not think of a fourth and I thought there would be some that would argue that.

Metallica, why? because they changed the face of rock in the mid eighties and ushered in a new form of metal.
Metallica has performed in front of larger audiences the world over. Nickleback has yet to do that. Red Hot Chilli Peppers are not far behind Metallica and in my own opinion Pearl Jam lost the bolt of lightning that they caught eight years ago.

I don't think they will be legends maybe just for 2 or 3 songs because all this bands hasn't had the consistent album success like for an example all the legends Zepelin, Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd, etc. had achieve the status because you can recall more than 4 complete albums of a good compilation of songs, RHCP has at least 3 good albums and maybe they can be cosidered legends with Mothers Milk, Californication and the recent Stadium Arcadium besides these 3 there's not other you can say they're good, Metallica besides Justice For All I can't recall any other good Album, Pearl Jam has its momentum when it started back in the early 90's with Nirvana, Nickleback has only singles recopilations turn to be albums.

Now,
Led Zepelin has Led Zepelin I, II, III,IV (Zoso) and Houses of the Holy.

Pink Floyd has Dark Side of the Moon, Wish you were here, Pulse, Ummagumma, The Final Cut, Atom Heart Mother, The Wall.

The Beatles Has Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road, Let it Be.

Stones has Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet, Some Girls, Get yer ya-ya's out, Tattoo you.

1. RHCP are very good and have created there own style. They have been around for a while. I think if they keep it up. they are def. on there way.

2. Metallica is already legend status. but they still have a few more years left before they can become legit rock legends.

3. Pearl Jam I dont think they will reach Legend status. They are not together anymore obviously. They had there own style and they were good. 10 is def. one of the best albums if not the best album of the 90's. But they are tough to say.

4. Nickleback - That is exactly how much there CD's should sell for. Not really. but i dont think they will ever be considered rock Legends.

Metallica is the most likely but Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pearl Jam are up there, too. Nickleback is ok but no where near the other 3.

Pearl Jam - Of the four listed, they are the most comparable to classics like Zepplin, Stones, The Who ect. Their album sales dropped dramatically between Vitalogy and Binaural, but their fan base rivals that of The Greatful Dead. They've been around for some 16 years and still sell out arenas. If they weren't relevant, I doubt they would have been chosen to headline Lollapalooza this summer.

RHCP is a close second. They have more history than Pearl Jam but their sound has become watered down in the last ten years. I still think they will be considered legendary, although I still don't think Keidis can actually sing.

Metallica was great up until they sold out and produced The Black Album. Everything up to that point was awesome. I think Load and Reload, along with Lar's public fight with Napster back in 99 really hurt their credibility.

Nickleback... doubtfull at best.

I would say Metallica has already achieved legend status and Pearl Jam and the Peppers are very close if not already included. Nickleback is not on the same page. They are the equivalent of a hair band, and will not mentioned in the same breath with the others.

Red Hot Chili Peppers will definatly be remembered
And Metallica and Pearl Jam have already been around for almost 20 years, and still going strong, so they will both remembered down the road.
But to answer the question, none of the bands of today come CLOSE to the bands of the 60s and 70s. None of them will be legends.

Metallica and Red Hot Chilli Peppers will go down as 100% classics.

Pearl Jam have gone a little obscure and off the radar somewhat recently. Thier album "10" will be considered a classic.

Nickleback...hmm I really don't think so. They will only be around for a little while longer I think. They are a bit of a fad.

Red Hot Chili Peppers by far. Nickleback should not even be on that list because they suck horrible. Pearl Jam is just annoying now. Metticla did do a lot for medal and rock, but rhcp switched it up more.

Maybe Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica and Pearl Jam. Definitely not Nickelback, at least not as a "legend" of rock... I've seen them live. They're pretty good...when they're playing someone else's songs.
