you need 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

512 MB of system memory

20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space

Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory

DVD-ROM drive

Audio Output

Internet access (fees may apply)

for vista thats probably why it might be going slow

Well first you should check your computer spec,s. Those are the more draging reasons for the speed decrease. Upgrading your RAM will speed your computer noticeable. The memory stick where given to you based on the concept of windows vista ready boost, wich in theory once plugged to the computter will function as more RAM, making the computer free some resorces and making small files avaliable more quickly. I Have use ready boost and have not notice any speed increase, but my sistem have 2gb of memory. Well my best advise is to add more ram, no less no more. Althoug you add ram your downloading spped capability is determine by your ISP (internet service provider) not you computer. Take care and I hope this could help you some.

Memory alone wont help with speed other factors come into play like the specification of the processor. In a nutshell yes memory upgrades can help but if the other components in your PC are not up to scratch this is like trying to use a lawnmower to refresh the look of your decking outside.

As for how to fit the memory there are many places on the internet with pictures to show you how to do this... the best bet is to go to the manufacturers website and download the manual for the motherboard this will provide the best instructions for you instead of people trying to guess what type of memory you are using.

I know this is a bit vague and isnt a 'real' solution but hopefully you become a bit wiser.

Memory sticks - AKA flashdrives, thumbdrives, are inserted into USB ports and serve as external backup or to easily transport information from one computer to another. They have nothing to do with Vista being slow.

I just got Vista on my new laptop. It is such a large program, that it consumes my 512mb RAM (computer memory) and is aggravatingly, frustratingly sloooooooooooow. I have just gotten an additional 512mb chip and expect things to be better after installation.

Microsoft says that Vista will run on 512mb RAM. It will -- but slowly -- and don't try to run anything else like Word or Excel. You may end up throwing your laptop up against the wall!

You don't mention how you get online. Dialup is the slowest which is why after a few years I bit the bullet and went cable.

Here are some things you can do to keep your computer's memory as clear as possible. I hope these hints are written such that you can understand them.

1. Set wallpaper and screensavers to blank or none — they run continuously in the background and use memory.
-----right-click on the desktop, select Properties
-----click the screensaver tab, on the left where it says "screensaver," select none.
-----click the desktop tab, for background, select none
2. Review your start menu – remove anything you don’t need on a daily basis — load games, etc. on an as-needed basis.
-----click Start, Settings, Taskbar and Start Menu
-----click the Start Menu tab
-----select a program you do not want to load at Startup, then click remove.
-----Caution -- do not touch anything you are not sure of or you will mess up your computer royally.
3. From Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options: delete cookies, delete files (offline), and clear history. (You can also set days to store history to 0.)
----- These actions will clear your computer’s cache. (For a description of cache, go to http://help.yahoo.com/l/ph/yahoo/mail/access/access-27210.html )
4. Run Disk Cleanup, Scandisk, Defrag at least every two weeks (the more frequently they are run, the less time they take).
-----These can be found in Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
5. Periodically, click Start, Programs, Run — then type ipconfig renew
(that’s ipconfig space renew).
6. Optional: Speed vs Goodies — in the Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance, Settings — you can have visual effects or let Windows select the best options. I am using “Best Performance.” Your choice.
These things should increase speed and free up memory as much as possible.

what do you mean by memory sticks. if you mean flash drives, then they will not speed up your pc

if you mean extra ram, then they may well speed up your PC
they will not affect the speed of downloads or capability.

Adding memory can be done by a newbie, but it is not ideal, these are sensitive devices and need some small amount of care when handling.
if in doubt call an engineer out
