Hysteroscopy 4 days ago very painful. Mid-way through procedure there was a power surge. Doctor had to start all over with that 91 second countdown portion (the part using electrical current (?). I thought my insides were being ripped out - maybe the local wore off too soon. I am one of those great patients that remains calm. This time around I actually started to cry and it took all I had not to scream out loud. The most painful ordeal I've have ever experienced in my life. After the procedure I went home and tried to get comfortable - that did not occur. My husband contacted the doctor's office to get some pain meds. Is this normal?

Four days later doing much better; however, very uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time, I feel interminate pulling sensations, bloating, some cramping.

No fever, no unusual discharge, little bleeding unless I become physically active, then it is like a light day during my cycle.

I thought I would be up and running around by now

Yes it can be painful. When I had one done in 1999 it was done in the OR and my doctor also injected a local anesthetic after I was out so that I wouldn't hurt much in the hours after the procedure.

The bleeding after the procedure is normal and can last for a few weeks because of the trauma to the uterus. I had some bleeding for a few weeks after I had mine done.

It took me a couple weeks to recover from that and the other procedures I had done at the same time.

At the time my doctor told me she doesn't like to do hysteroscopies in the office because of the kind of pain it can cause and also the positioning in the office is a lot harder to work with than if done in the OR (Operating Room). I don't know if she does hysteroscopies in the office now though.

I would recommend that if you still don't feel better by Mon to please call the doctor back to let them know what's going on.
