I have a 91 Volvo 740 Station Wagon... I call her "Big Red" or the "Shagin Wagon" -- When it died, I cried over it, and now I'm waiting to get it repaired... I took such good care of It - mechanically its good, but who would have known the electrical system would fail...
I'm 20 now, and I've had it since I was 17. I'm actually mourning for my car and I'm willing to pay anything to get it fixed... Is that normal?

Well heck yes my pickup and me are a team. Without it I am at the mercy of someone else? Who would want that?

Actually, I think it's quite normal...especially for a first car.
I am very attached to our car too...lots of people are. It's especially true if there's a major event in your life you can relate it to - like a first car, or a car you've wanted for years and you get it - then there will be greater emotional attachment. You'll also see, children have great emotional attachment to their cars - and sometimes will refuse to ride in another (like a rental car or a new car).
I hope you can get her fixed soon! Good luck!

Yes it is normal .Your first car means everything to you and you took good care of it so of course it is a disappointment when the electrical system fails. Is it in the repair shop now? Good luck.

You are no more weird than 50% of the males I know. It isn't unusual to be emotionally attached to a car that has special meaning & memories associated to it. The same can be said of other inanimate objects... a special piece of jewelry, a house, etc. It is more what you associate with the item than the item itself.

It's normal but to a point, especially if it was your first car, you never forget your first ;). But life is all about changes, yes the car gets you from here to there but there comes a point when it has to go, just like humans cars die. Crying over it, actually letting tears flow down your face for something so materialistic that is kinda weird to me but ay do you but if you mourn a CAR for more than one day.....something is wrong with you!

i think many people grow a bit attached to their cars. my mom had a 20+year old car which she still adores, but does not have access to... you have simply gotten used to having it there, and you know it well (being able to switch gears using stick without looking at the dashboard, etc).
