What is the best thing you have ever bought from one of those?

I like going to both. When I was younger I hated going to them with my mom--I thought that thrift stores and garage sales were for poor people, and that people might think we can't afford *new*stuff.
Anyway, I grew up and realized that new stuff costs a lot of money.. and there are some great finds at garage sales and thrift stores!

Garage Sales are more creative but I wouldn't buy clothes or anything from them.Thrift stores can be fun to look at but a little pricey on some items. If I had to choose though I would say thrift stores

I've never found anything good at a garage sale, and thrift stores just totally freak me out, with the weird smells and the oldies music and the ladies that work there that all still are living in the '80s ....

I like both, tag/yard/garage/rummage sales are seasonal around here but I also do the "Freecycle" thing, like a craigslist (be careful with the name cause if not correct it could be XXX) It gives me an accomplished feeling to get something for a discounted price

Both @ times but prefer garage sales. I bought a bird bath @ a garage sale, re-painted it & it looks good in my back yard.

Thrift stores. Best buy was probably enough tile to remodel a large bathroom.

I like garage sales better - that way you can actually see the people who owned it first!
