Turn off the water feeding the faucet and take out the handle stem. Depending on the age of the faucet, could be as simple as replacing a worn washer or may need a new stem.

First determine what brand of faucet you have for there are specific parts for specific faucets.
Then go to your local home improvement store and tell a plumbing associate the type of faucet and the problem you are having. They should be able to sell the part you need.
Now you have parts at the ready when you are ready to TURN OFF the water under the sink or at the main entrance and replace the part.

If it is a double handle faucet, there is probably a bad washer on the end of the stem. If it is single handle, you may need to replace the cartridge. The "O" rings go bad in them.
