I am staying at the Maswik Lodge, which is inside the park. So do I still need to pay the $25 entrance fee into the park? Thank you.

I'm not complaining about the fee. I'm just trying to come up with an idea of how much my trip is going to cost.

Yes, unless the hotel you are staying at offers some kind of discount...you might want to check with them. We thought the $25 was a little steep when we went last year, but found out it was well worth it. It is good for 3 days, so if you leave the park area, you don't have to pay to re-enter. When you get to the main park area, there is a wonderful shuttle bus system that is free. 3 lines (blue, red, and yellow) run to all the great look-outs constantly. You can get on and off at any point, and stay as long as you'd like. Then just hop back on another one. You'll get a map of this system when you enter the park, so you can decide which bus to take to where, when to change to another "color" route etc. The thought of trying to battle a zillion cars in the small roads and turn-arounds made us realize our $25.00 was worth the cost of the shuttle service alone. Have fun. It's awesome.

Unless something has changed, then the answer is yes. The entrance fee for the national park is totally separate from the lodging fees (which go to whatever company owns the lodge/hotel).

The entrance fee is to help with costs of the national park, and they don't receive that from the hotels.

Yes. Xanterra (sp?) runs the lodging for the NPS, but the admission to the park is separate. If a member of your party is over 65, have them get a Golden Eagle pass, it is $10 (I think) and is good for the rest of their life at any National Park or Monument.

contact the motel and ask them to send you confirmation, This will most likely keep you from paying the entrance fees. Most motels have it set up at the gate.
