Since I seldom "dress up", I have no fashion sense. I had picked out a pink taffeta dress, but a friend of mine said it was "too summery" for this time of year. Any advice?

BTW - I'm an award recipient, not just part of the audience.

i would suggest a vertical stripes shirt in light pink or light blue color and black color touzer along with a scarf around the neck ( with a darker shade of pink in case of the pink shirt and darker shade of blue in case of blue shirt) as it is a company award luncheon. you should have a very proffessional look but it should reflect ur personality as well. so to have a littel personal touch you can were a nice pare of earings(studs) or a nice peace of jewelry ( but not a big one).... if its more informal then perhaps a plain beige color dress with a little bit of lase work.....

Pink taffeta for a work luncheon? Noooo!!!!

A pink taffeta dress is more for a wedding or prom (or a trash can) and not a daytime work event. I would go with a nice skirt and top, or a skirt suit, or a dress more along the lines of career wear, nothing fussy or frilly or pink. You need to keep a professional vibe since it's a work thing. If you want to be taken seriously, anyways - if the whole company will be there you want to make a good impression to the "big" people. You never know who you might meet there and where that could lead to.

Think "job interview outfit" rather than anything you'd wear to a party.

Pink taffeta is way too summery... I'd say go for a simple dress with a blazer or cardigan over top. You don't want anything that is too revealing or that has a busy pattern. Choose a color that suits your skin tone best and try to pair it with a blazer or cardigan that won't contrast with that color. If you are uncertain about the color, ask your friends' opinion. Hope this helps!

I would wear separates. Dark dress dress pants with white or bright feminine top/blouse and a blazer/jacket with low heels and jewelry.
I sometimes go to the salon to have them wash and blow dry my hair. They make it look so good.
I do think pink taffeta is too summery.
