04 Grand Prix GT; all services done on time and are up to date; warranty is expired; it usually won't start when it's really hot outside or when it's been raining; when I start it, the motor will kind of try to rev up but then turn off.

I took it goodyear for the regular balance and rotation last Monday & they supposedly checked the battery. I was concerned that that is what it could've been but they said it was fine. Should I take it back and have them recheck it? Also, one more thing, I heard that there is a recall on this model for a grinding/knocking noise when turning the sterring wheel at low speeds. If that's true how can I find that info and if the warranty is expired will there be a charge for it to be fixed?

If there is no clicking, then its most likely that your battery has run down.
Try charging your battery. If it takes and holds a good charge, then it would be suspect that you have a bad alternator. In an 04, you would think that the battery should still have at least 1-2 years life in it especially if you live in a warmer climate.
You might want to try a gas additive - it sounds like you might have a little water or moisture in your tank. It doesn't take much water to effect the performance.
Finally, your cars computer chip might be faulty. In todays cars, many things can go wrong and its not even mechanical. It could be your cars computer is messed up. Go to a mechanic that can run a diagnostic test.

You have to be a little clearer here. Are you saying the starter motor is turning the motor over and quits or are you saying the motor starts, revs up, and then stalls? If you are saying the first, take it to a good mechanic and tell them exactly what and when is happening. There are tests that can be done that might uncover what is the problem. If the test does not reveal what is wrong, don't start replacing parts as this is where it gets expensive and frustrating for everyone. Try to get it into the mechanic when the problem is acting up or leave it with them telling them when to check it. When a problem acts up is when it has to be diagnoses usually. The other thing about recalls is just phone a dealer with your car's VIN handy and let them punch it into the GM site and it says if your car needs a recall. Recalls are done for absolutely nothing so no need to worry about that.

These cars have a computerized starting system. Unlike older cars, when you turn the key all you're doing is telling the computer to start the car. My mother-in-law has a Chevy Malibu with the same issue. This is a computer OS glitch and most small independent mechanic shops will not find it. You will have to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer.
The good news is that if the car has been recalled for a steering issue, there will be no charge to have that fixed and while it is in the shop tell them about the problem with the car not starting sometimes. They may be able to give you a quick diagnosis without charge.

I had a Dodge Dakota that did the same thing. I replaced the battery and the starter. It still continued. I put it in a shop and come to find out it was a single bare wire touching the motor causing it not to start all the time. They had to hook it to the computer to tell though. Sounds like a similar problem that you have. Try checking the battery connection. make sure the battery post is clean and the cable is tight.

Erratic problems like that with heat and rain are usually simply a bad connection at the battery or a corroded up contact. Sometimes they even are just too loose.
Take the cables off the battery, scurb em down with a wire brush real good, then put them back on and tight. (not too tight) and that should fix you all up!

I have an 04 Pontiac Grand Prix GT...if there's no clicking it's probably the battery. If you hear clicking it's probably the starter or alternator.
