I am so sick of all the lil teeny boppers using extreme shorthand when typing on places like this. I love using shorthand when I'm texting, but why use shorthand when you have a whole keyboard in front of you? (And I know shorthand isn't reserved just for teeny boppers -- I have 30yr old friends who email me in shorthand like it's a text. Ahhhh! :o)

The exasperation you have expressed has been experienced by many in YA in the past. As someone has mentioned earlier, there are still many from the old school who believe in using full and correct spelling in their writing. This art hasn't died as yet but may become extinct soon, if at school and college level, attempts are not made to strictly comply with correct spelling rules. I shudder to think of a day when the present generation brought up on IM and SMS language, becomes teachers of the younger generation that follows them.
Maybe society would change to accept IM and SMS language as proper in future! I hope I don't live to see that day!

It is not a lost art. I cannot cope with this texting shorthand. I am a trained typist and find it easier to type full words than think too hard about the shorthand versions. Even when I make a typing error it is far quicker to delete the whole word and type it again than fiddle around deleting specific characters and correcting.

My pet hate is thanx! I can type or word process faster than trying to think of short forms of words, plus I am as old as the hills and was brought up to write proper English with correct grammer. We need a Society for Proper Words.

It drives me batty!!!! This is why when they do type out the words and sentences, it is full of spelling and grammatical errors. These kids have forgotten how to spell and speak properly.

It drives me crazy too. I think there's enough of us old school folks to set those young punks straight when they get into the work force. Seniority and all that!
