Did you just awake for a few hundred-years nap? At one time the United States was a part of England. Unfortunately, there was only one religion in England and the United States seceded in order to have freedom of religion. Now we are no longer ruled by a monarchy but by a democratic government and we like it that way.
When you say "American" you cover a lot of territory; north America, central America, south America. Which are you talking about?

Strange until the second world war the loss of the American Colonies was considered a disaster. After it a blessing in disguise. The only arrogance I see hear is in the question. and of course some of the more childish answers it has provoked

Or France or Spain depending on who you talk to. Frankly I do believe that had the King of England not been so greedy and punishing to the "Colonies" back then we probably would still be ruled by England. See what can happen if your greedy?

Cragfizz... Dumb question..
ENGLAND used to be a great country till they allowed your ancestors to breed...
Big dawg, DONT OFFEND THE ONLY TRUE FRIENDS YOU HAVE!!!
Major, My F****ng **** pal, the UK is NOBODY'S lapdog!!
Don't confuse friendship for anything else, we make up our own minds (We do not forget that we have military debts to the USA, we just wish they would stop shooting at our troops)
Not all Americans are like that anyway, have you ever been to the US? i have and i find them no different from us..
Oh, and by the way.. I'm Scottish.. (Not an English lapdog either!)

The UK is finished - so how in the world would they rule America?
I like Americans very much - though not their current government. They are a very generous and innovative people who did help fund our fight (in the north of Ireland) to get the Brits out of our country.

Pot calling the kettle black. The question is and always has been, why are Englishmen so negative? It is a way of life, for they have little to be happy about living in an outdated nation.

England -- u mean the arm pit of Europe -- the place where they serve warm beer (thanks Lucas).. drive on the wrong side of the road, can't speak English, and hold the Queen in such high regard when she will not give back all the money her family stole from her subjects -- oh yeah we had that once and it did not work -- remember... and we beat u then and we would beat u now ---

It's that life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness thing.
Nobody else puts so much effort into being happy. It just looks like arrogance.
