small spaces look great with maybe a love seat and a small chair, or 2 stuffed chairs with end tables on hgtv they say small spaces look better with bigger peices like big art work or mirror mirror's appear to make the room larger ..a nice stand up lamp etc..

Love seats; compact recliners; lots of pillows; regular upholstered chairs; etc. If the house is small; and you do a lot of entertaining; or have a large family; you probably won't solve the problem just with furniture types.
Certainly to allow a certain number of places to sit; will crowd a room anyway; although chairs; etc; do allow more flexibility in "placement"

You could build seating against a wall or two. Simple box frame with cushion across the top in a pretty fabric would work. Have some seating at 90 degree angle to "bench" seating for conversation affect...the extension of the "bench" or may be one or two small chairs.

A futon is good for all sorts of entertainment and it doesn't take up much room. You can also use it for guests to sleep overnight. My 4 grandchildren opens mine up when they come over and they sit in a circle and play board games on it while watching TV, and when they are tired they are already in their overnight guest bed and they just lay down with their pillows and blankies and fall asleep. I also like it when I'm watching TV, it's soo comfy!

My cousin has the same problem so she uses a love seat and two arm chairs, she keeps folding chairs under the bed for extra seating if needed.
