I've fiddled around with my computer and when i press get images->scan, it allows me to scan something. But when i press the scan button on the printer it still says to install or run device software on computer. Any suggestions?

okay..i have a old HP psc 2400 series printer and i just got a new computer with vista...the installation CD doesnt work with vista so i downloaded photosmart that was compatible with vista..now the problem is the scanning..i press scan on the printer and it doesnt scan

ah and to make matters worse, when i click on HP solution center it says no HP devices have been detected but i no my printer works coz ive just printed of a document

The problem lies in the lac of software for Vista for this machine.

Have you checked HP's site for the latest editions to see if they have a set for Vista yet ? ( www.hp.com )

Once you have the software for it, you can tell it what software to auto load when the scan button is used, other than that you have to do it via software

It could be a driver problem with your printer/scanner.

Go to these sites to see if you have the latest drivers.

http://www.driveragent.com

If this doesn't work, try uninstalling the printer/scanner and reinstall it again, if you still have the installation CD.

Please edit your question by adding the printer brand and model...kinda hard to guess but did you try scanning offline or disconnected from the PC?
