ronald reagan's history was that of an opportunist.
The man would tell the people whatever it was he thought they wanted to hear whether it had a lick of truth to it, or not.
he started out his political career as a Democrat, but after serving as California's Governor, and signing the bill legalizing abortion in this state, and finding that he couldn't get any further with the Democrats, he switched parties and the republicans fell head over heels for the man's smooth lines of deceit.
The republicans immortalized the man and made him the hero that their party surely lacked since Abraham Lincoln's time.
They didn't care whether he spoke the truth or not, as long as he told them what they wanted to hear, and this was evidenced in his first campaign for the presidency.
President Jimmy Carter told the truth.
He said that he did not have a plan to boost the American economy.
ronald reagan campaigned that he did have a plan.
Some strange deal was made with Iran that if reagan were to be inaugurated then and only then would they release the hostages that they were holding as political pawns.
The day that the votes were tallied and it was decided that reagan had beat President Jimmy Carter, a commentator asked reagan what was his plan to boost the economy.
He then said that he didn't have a plan.
The commentator said, "But mr. reagan, you said you had a plan when you were campaigning."
reagan proudly answered "Anybody running for president would have said they had a plan whether they did or not."
This told me, right from the start, that here was a man that could not be trusted.
But the republicans fell for his smooth lines, hook, line and sinker.
Tell a republican what they want to hear and you've got friends who will follow you directly into the lake of fire, or where-ever you lead them.

Reagan had his faults like any politician.
But he was the greatest president of the 20th Century.
Why?
Because he beat the Soviets. He looked them in the eye, did not flinch and made them back down. They thought he was a crazy senile old b@stard. Maybe he was, maybe not.
But by winning the Cold War we have the luxury of complaining about a minor war in Iraq or Islamic terrorism.
Compared to imminent thurmonuclear war, life now is a walk in the park.
George W Bush was merely the better of two crappy choices in both of his elections.
History will be much less kind to him

Personally, I voted for Bush, not because I thought he was the better candidate, but because I had to take the lesser of two evils.
What about him, it has been proven that he is the least liked President in history.
He has little to no personality
he recently vetoed a bill to assist innocent children of vital healthcare.
But we are spending billions on financing a war.
where is the justification in that
