I have a HP psc 2400 series printer and i recently got a new computer with vista. The CD that comes with the printer is only compatible with XP and not vista. i've downloaded photosmart essential and i can print documents. However, when i press scan on my printer it says to run or install device software on computer. How do i scan and do i have to download another program?

Pop along to www.hp.com see if they have reeleased a proper vista driver set for th edevice.
If not, you have no option but to stick with scanning from software and ignore the scan button.

I have a scan button on my scanner, but I NEVER use it . . . I like more control.

I have a HP psc 1410 all in one and had similar problems. Today HP finally directed me to a solution once I reinstalled the HP solution center. Apparently the Vista drivers don't support push button scanning. I can only scan if I access the printer's flatbed scanner through the Microsoft Fax and Scan program (really sucks).

This is probably more of a quick fix but worked for me when I couldn't get my all in one to scan

Download http://www.irfanview.com/index.htm then open it and select File>Acquire/Batch scanning>OK

Your scanner should then work! =)
