Being seperated for five years isn't going to change the cost of a divorce.

This really depends on what state you live in, what kind of property you own, whether or not you have kids, and how nasty your ex wants to be. My bf had been seperated from his wife since 2007, and had never divorced because he never had a serious gf (or at least had one that cared if he was still legally married or not). We live in Ky. and he went to the court house and got a pro se divorce packet. Luckily they owned nothing together but a van (in her name that he didn't want) and a child. Child support had already been determined before the divorce and he wasn't asking for custody, etc. so the after the 60 day wait period he was divorced for the cost of $155.00

After a five year separation a divorce by mutual agreement would not be expensive. What costs the money is division of property and access to any children. If these matters are not an issue it is a simple question of agreement and a little paperwork!

Depends on the details, I was separated for 3 years and then the divorce cost £35,000, my sister was in the same situation and cost £150, do you have kids under 16 if so it will be dearer. see a lawyer

It doesn't matter how long you've been separated. It's more how much foot work is it going to take? Is it uncontested? Children? Property?

My uncontested divorce w/ minor children cost $875. Ex & I had everything divided up. Lawyer worked on child support and the legal aspect of divorce.

yes, you need to contact a lawyer... divorces cost different amounts, not so much based on how long you've been together/separated, but how much property you have together, if one or both of you contest something the other one wants, if you have children, etc. don't just call one lawyer, though, contact several... find out what their reputation is, and which can give you the best deal, but the best representation.

The cost is not determined by the amount of time of the separation, but if you are trying to cut costs and hubby wants it too and you can agree on property, you can go to the library and get the ppwk, fill it out, have him sign it. Then all it would cost you is a filing fee.

Good luck!

Could cost very litlle. If you have no big issues, like custody of kids, to sort out you could skip the lawyer and just file all the paperwork yourselves. Can get packs from WHSmith.

It would be much easier for you to contact a lawyer in your area for "rough"estimate, based on your situation?
