My family recently went to the party for the sale of the final Harry Potter book. We all dressed up as charaters from the books but the best costume I made was for the 3-headed dog, Fluffy. My son actually won 2nd place in the costume portion of the party. To make the costume I used a long pair of legging-style stretch pants that he could wear over his shoes, and a long brown valure dress. We cut the dress off at mid thigh and I attached a tail that I had purchased at our local party store through the back. To attach the tail I made a slit in the dress, stuffed the attachable portion of the tail through the slit and sewed it up. For the mask, I purchased 3 identical 'fox' masks, and tied them all together using the elestic bands that usually go around your head, then I took string/yarn and stapeled in to the side of the two end masks (with a knot to secure the string) to make the mask one peice and easier to attach and detach. Any wolf/dog style mask could be used for this. I chose the fox because it was smaller and better proportioned for my son's head.

Another idea that I've done for costume partys is the Biblical Adam and Eve, which really only takes a bathingsuit and some fake flowers, leaves and vines which can be purchased at most fabric and/or craft stores. Just attach the fake flowers, etc., to your suit and put some in your hair, for Eve's costume. If you are artistic, you can even draw vines, etc., on your legs, arms and face.

My parents also made a caveman/woman set for a party they went to once. I've worn it too, and it really goes over well in competition, especially for original designs/ideas. Basically its a wig made out of brown yarn (or maybe now with all the 'caveman' stuff around, you might be able to find a regular wig), and soft brown material cut up with jaggaed edges to make a diaper and either a top and skirt for the girl of a long toga for the guy. Then there was brown fur material pined to the shoulder for the guy and made into booties to go over your shoes or made into slippers to wear instead of shoes. The guy should have a club and the girl should somehow put small 'rawhide' bone(s) in her hair.

I have other ideas, like a bunch of grapes, etc., but I don't know what you're really looking for. I hope that some of these ideas have either interested you or sparked other ideas for you. Good luck at the costume party.

Try being a Glamour Ghost. Just sew a feather boa to the bottom of a sheet (where the feet would be). Instead of cutting plain circles out for eyes, make them football shaped, and then put glitter glue around the edges to resemble swirly design-y eyelashes. You could do a lot with that, just be creative. Happy Halloween!

Invisible Man
You need an extra-tall button-down shirt and an extra-tall trench coat. Wear both over your head so that your face is in the chest area (arrange a piece of black cloth over your eye area to see through). Stuff the shoulders and top of the arms. Now use a piece of stiff wire to suspend a fedora over your head. Dangle a pair of sunglasses below the hat using fishing wire. Wear gloves. (Alternate: wrap your face in gauze and wear large sunglasses.)

Could possibly get clothes at thrift store. See source for picture.

Pee Wee Herman (old school with mirrors on the shoes and everything)
John McClain (original die hard) with no shoes and the rolled up pants
Soup Nazi "no soup for you"
Brett Michaels - lead singer of Poison (you could pass out vip rock of love passes to the ladies) it would be awesome if you had a guy dress up as big John as your bodyguard. It would be awesome!!

I don't think anyone else would dare go as Chuck Norris.
