My Mum has just chosen hers : (
Morning Has Broken and Dock of the Bay
Mine is 'Lament' from the Lord of the Dance and this poem too...
DASH
I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning...to the end.
-
He noted that first came the date of her birth
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.
-
For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth...
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.
-
For it matters not, how much we own;
the cars....the house...the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.
-
So think about this long and hard...
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left.
(You could be at "dash midrange.")
-
If we could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real,
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.
-
And be less quick to anger,
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we've never loved before.
-
If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile...
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.
-
So, when your eulogies being read
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be proud of the things they
say about how you spend your dash?

The two songs I would have are Fields of Gold and You raise Me Up (westlife).
I noticed someone had put a poem, so seeing as I've just read this poem out at a relatives funeral, i would have it aswell -
It's Footprints by Mary Stevenson.
"One night I dreamed across the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I only saw one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord, "you promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always,
but I have noticed that during the most trying times of my life, there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most. have you not been there for me?".
The Lord replied, "My dear child, I love you and would never leave you, the times when you saw only one set of footprints in the sand, were the times I was carrying you."

I would choose Mickey by Toni Basil as it's my favourite song of all time and Angel by Sarah Mclachlan as it was my first dance at my wedding. It would be different but at least it's not too depressing!
