If Kate was guilty, then how could her mother not see through her daughter and how could Kate be so callus that she could deceive her whole family. Her mother… who thinks that “Kate’s sensitive, caring and one of the most maternal people I know. She puts me to shame,"
Did Kate deceive her whole family all her life! Or do you think her whole family are covering up for her?

When I don’t know a person, I usually base my judgement on how the people closest to them see them. Since there are no facts available to me, I am afraid this is the best I could go by, and that is much better than most people in here base their opinion on.

Good point Toi-et-Moi...
Regardless of those who will shout that parents will always stick up for their child, they need to know that Grandparents would never stick up for their children.... at the cost of their precious Grandchildren.

Well that question sure opened a can of worms.
Toi, I usually agree with you but this time I am afraid I have to disagree.
Her mother says that Kate is one of the most parental people she knows. Now surely Mum knows the kids were left alone so where does she come from in that statement? I am afraid that her statement just makes her look like a mother who thinks her kids can do no wrong.
It's so sad to think a simple $30 baby monitoring system could perhaps have prevented this tragedy. (Well of course not leaving your babies alone would have done that too...)
I guess I just can't comprehend why you would leave your kids alone in a strange bedroom. When I babysit my grandkids I have the baby monitor on my belt even when I just go to the bathroom. I don't leave them alone in the car while I pay for gas and the drive through window is my best friend when I have the kiddies in the car. If I knew my daughter left her kids alone in a hotel room, I would kick her ***. And then I would kick her husbands *** too.
Wouldn't you?

In all fairness, toietmoi, it would be a pretty poor show if her mother was not prepared to state in public her total faith in her daughter.
It's not, on its own, proof positive, though, that Kate McCann is innocent or even that her mother actually does believe that she is (though I have no reason to doubt it).
It's not necessary to look to the family and friends for guidance on this - one could argue that it's their duty to offer Kate & Gerry that support. It's enough for me that I have not seen evidence (and, as yet, neither has any court) to convince that they have done anything criminal (including their decision to leave the children in the apartment).
They are innocent until proven guilty. It's that simple.

Because she has been brainwashed by McSpin. The evidence of a DEAD body in the car has now been made public. What mother would want to face the most dreadful truth. She will probably insist on her daughters innocence even agaist the mountain of evidence that is piling up. I feel for her so much. She really DID love her granddaughter. The McFraudsters should have left the children with the grandparents instead of taking them to Portugal to be left with childminders all day every day and alone and defenceless every night.

Well we really don't know Kate's mom personality. My mother is extremely naive. My brothers lie to my mom all the time and she always believes them when the lies are so obvious to the rest of us. My mom just refuses to see the worst in them I guess. I could convince my mom of most anything if I wanted to. I would not say they are covering up for her without the proof however. How many times do we see loved ones and people close to a murder, pedo or any criminal say how shocked they are that a criminal did something because he or she was such a good person. Chester the Molestors girlfriend of many years was horrified to find out what he had done as were her children that said he never laid a finger on any of them. He was living under her roof for years with her children and said herself pretty much that if it was not him on the video she would not have believed he could do such a thing. We just never know.

What do you really expect her mother to say - I'm 75% sure she wouldn't harm her daughter? Of course she is going to stand by her as most parents would if their child was similarly accused. And if kate puts her mother to shame with her maternal instincts - abandoning the kids whilst out on the razzle - then it is no wonder that Kate turned out like she did.

Oh! Quick, call the Portuguese police and tell them to call off the search. In fact, let's disband the entire world justice system and just get the accused's parents in as judge and jury...
Your parents may well know what you're thinking, but I somehow doubt that if you were accused of a crime that your Mother would go to the press and start shouting about how guilty you are.
I'm not in either camp on this whole thing as I would prefer to wait for evidence, however, how naive are you if you think that the words of a "suspects" parents (in the press no less!) should be taken as proof of guilt or innocence!?

It shows that a mothers love is blind, if Kates mother thinks that her daughter ( kate ) is Sensitive, Caring etc, what about her daughter ( kate ) leaving her 3 grandchildren alone in their holiday apartment & going out drinking at the Tapas bar on May 3rd eh?

Oh, well if her mum says she is innocent the whole of the PJ and FSS must be wrong.
HELLO?
In relation to "her life revolves around her children" she works 1.5 days a week yet her chlidren are in nursery full time and she has a nanny. I am not getting that bit. Even on holiday the children were in full time day care. That just seems strange to me. I have nothing against her decision to have them looked after by someone else 24/7, I just think it flies in the face of her "the most maternal woman I know" argument.
Toi - My mother is dead but I would have no hesitation in beleiving that she would never want to beleive that I could kill and dispose of my own children and would defend me until the cows came home. Not through any malice, but just because that is what I think she would do. (I'm kind of hoping she wouldn't have dropped my breasts in to the argument though:))

Oh come on - you are using the word of her mother as proof she is innocent?
A mother sees the best in their child, there have been countless mothers in the past refusing to believe their children are guilty.
My goodness I watch my son take a swipe at someone at the local toddlers group and still feel he isn't in the wrong! It is what mothers do!!!!
Am I reading this right? I just chocked on my coffee after reading this -
'In an extraordinary interview, Susan Healy described how her distraught daughter claimed if she was heavier - and had bigger breasts - people would be more sympathetic. '
What? What on earth is that about??

Unfortunately, what a mother believes of her child is not necessarily the truth. I have children, I want to believe that they are the best of human nature, but of course, I will never know exactly what they might do or not do, just as my parents don't know everything about me.
Look at all the parents that defend their sons/daughters that are now serving time for murder/rape etc
If your child tells you he/she didn't do something, the chances are that you believe them because you WANT to, because believing the opposite would be devastating to a parent.
