No, we are absolutely not monkey descendants. We do share a common ancestor, but at some point we (evolutionarily speaking) branched off in another direction.

A lot of people over-simplify the theory of evolution. No, you aren't a monkey or an ape. However, at some point all things alive on earth share an ancestor: that very first cell that burst into life. We are in fact related to the grass and the moths and the apes. But we are not them! About one millions years ago a female crossed the line from an ancestor to a human. Since then, we have been human. So, not a monkey, no. BUT -- connected to everything!

The other answers are generally right EXCEPT the one that claims humans are not apes. There are 5 great apes: Orangutans, gorillas, humans, chimpanzees and bonobos. A couple things that distinguish apes from monkeys is that apes have no tails and that ape arms can be used to swing from trees. Monkeys walk on top of branches on all fours. If you can fold your arms behind your head, you are an ape.

NO! according to Darwin's theory of natural selection(which by the way is is generally accepted by scientists as a law) simply provides evidence taht humans and other primates(monkeys) have a common ancestor. this is very evident when you look at amino acid sequences or even their DNA. the more closely related one is, the more common their amino acid sequences or DNA chains. all organisms share some of the same genes indicating we all are related in the context of having a common ancestor.

Yes. Genetically you are 98% identical to a chimpanzee. For every bone in the chimpanzee skeleton, there is a corresponding bone in the human skeleton.
