The agency should be thrilled that a puppy has found a loving home. They were allowed to go to the home and check out the family and see that the pup was well cared for. The fact that they don't let people with children adopt their dogs is why they took the pup away. The girls are 11 and 12 years old but the agency has a rule that no children under the age of 14 can have one of their dogs!! Kids can't have dogs?? What? Dogs and kids love each other!
Maybe the agency only wants celebrities to adopt their dogs?Yes, Ellen broke the contract but Ellen did the right thing for the dog and that is what should be most important.
Mutts and Moms should rethink their rules, the ultimate goal should be a loving home for animals.

If the dog didn't fit, it didn't fit. My son brought a pooch home on a visit, and there was no way that mutt was going to stay permanantly when he tried to palm her off on me.
What Ellen SHOULDN'T have done was give the dog to the hair dresser.
What Marina Batkis SHOULDN'T have done is to simply take the pooch back without offering to check FIRST whether the hairdresser's family would be an appropriate home.
Batkis says, "If Ellen wants to place dogs and decide what's a good home, then she should start her own rescue group." Batkis then says, "But I'm the one doing this and I know what I'm doing."
I don't think Batkis does know what she was doing on this case. She had to close shop over the uproar. I personally hope it stays closed. But what critics SHOULDN'T do is threaten harm. Maybe supporters, however, SHOULD, promise not to give another nickel to her cause until she deals a little more reasonably in problems like this.
Contracts have the letter of law to spell out what should happen. Batkis has that going for her. Adoption services have the spirit of finding a good home. DeGeneres has that going for her. Unfortunately poor Ruby (hairdresser's daughter) doesn't have Iggy (the dog), so Batkis' letter of the law is killing (figuratively) her.
DeGeneres did something dumb. Batkis did something stupid.

I've adopted all my animals from the shelter for the last 20 years and we all have to sign saying that if we don't keep the animal then we'll turn in back into the agency. It's to keep people from putting helpless animals into unsafe or unsuitable homes.
Why should she be exempt from the rules if she's a celebrity? It's for the animals' protection, to keep people from "dumping" unwanted pets on unsuitable homes. People who don't want an animal are often more interested in getting rid of their "problem" than insuring that the poor beast is truly getting a good home.
If the hairdresser and her kids want the dog, let them go down to the shelter and apply to adopt it themselves! If they really are fit and proper people to provide a suitable home, the agency will decide and not Ellen Degeneres.

I think it's kinda funny, she found someone else who wanted the dog. They should give the dog back to that family that Ellen gave it too!

She should have kept the dog. If it's in the contract, that's what she needed to do. I don't like her political viewpoints either. Too liberal.
