Most youngsters want to hear music either from youngsters, or aimed at youngsters.

It's all about relating to the artists as well as the song.

Why don't old people like modern music?

I think the question is too general. Lots of people like lots of different types of music.

However, to give in a little to generalization, when you were a kid, wasn't the last thing you wanted to hear was what your parents listened to?

I've always liked old music, since I was a kid. (18 now) I guess the reason modern people don't like old music for the reason that it somehow is uncool, or that since the cool people dont like old music, everyone else has to not like it either.

Embarrasement?

Not sure, just my opinion.

Each generation prefers the music of their teen years and doesn't like much of the older stuff. It will probably be the same when you are older, you won't like the modern stuff. Music changes quite drastically with time, and most people get "stuck" in their favourite era.

Because Modern People Grow up by listening to the songs and by living in the trend of that era. Trend means Fashion.
Every second it changes. So , it is never idle =)
I guess this question remains the same in every generation!

There is no one simple reason but....

Mainly, it is a human right of passage to rebel against your parents and tradition. Part of this rebellion is played out by each generation developing its own style of music. And then the "pace" of life and other environmental factors like world war tensions, depressions, recessions and prosperity further influence of each new generation. And some of it is just because of the difference in age, younger folks tending to like more intense music reflective of their faster metabolism whereas we older folks tend to have a slower metabolism and other sources of stress and energy drains like mortgages, car payments, kid payments, insurance etc.

Before you question the younger, modern people about why they dont like their parents music, you should ask yourself do you listen to the music your parents did? My dad use to listen to Lawrence Welk every Saturday night (it played opposite my favorite He-Haw and in those days families only had one TV) He also liked polka, etc. To this day, I hate Lawrence Welk music and can but only tolerate polka.

Depends on who you consider 'modern' people and what you consider 'old' music.

oh i learned about that in psychology class. basically, the "oldies" is the music that our parents grew up with when they were teenagers, and from age 16-20something is when u are most effected by society and culture. so what they listened to when they were teenagers definitely is not wat we teenagers today are exposed to in our music culture, so when we're old, we'll still be hooked on pop, rap, hip hop, and r&b no matter what the current music trend is in the future. hope that answers ur question!

Because "Old Music" has rhythm, lyrics you can understand ,singers who can really sing, imaginative arrangements, and real musical instruments (no electronic sounds)
