"Bilirubin" (It's the chemical that turns it brown and makes bruises yellow).It is yellowish and a product of normal heme catabolism within the body.

Human poo is brown because it contains bile. Bile is secreted by the liver and travels via the bile duct to the intestines where it mixes with the stuff passing through. Bile is basically dead red blood cells which gives a distinctive colour to faeces.

tentofield's got (more or less) the best answer (although you might want to check on what bile really is..), except of course that poo can have lots of color variations, including a lovely shade of olive-green if your gut is really out of whack. Depends what you eat and how well your system is working.

That is th4e right answer above but not all poop is brown (ha ha) birds in the rain forest wild parets ect some eat NOTHING but berries I've seen red poop. other animals that may eat pure fruit or one type of item may not digest it completely.

Feces. We have to assume you are asking about the excrement of waste out the anus. It is feces.

It is brown because that's the color that remains after food has been digested, absorbed and passed through the intestines.
