You can drive in any state in the U.S. with an out of state driver's license. You can only have a valid driver's license in one state. As far as getting a California license it depends on their local laws whether you have to take a written test, a driving test, or both.

You can only have one driver's license, as per federal law. Before this law was passed, truckers would get licenses in several states, and if they were pulled over, rotate the license that they gave the police, so that they did not end up with too many points on any one license! Now they can not do that!
Alaska is a state of the Union. You can drive in any state with an Alaska Driver's license! If you have moved to California and established residency there, you will need to get a California license. Check with the DMV, most likely you will only have to take the writen test if you have a valid out if state license!
If you are a student, or in the military, and your legal residence is still in Alaska, you can keep your Alaska license, instead of getting a California one!

yes you can drive in California with a Alaska drivers license. if you decide to get a California licenses, you may have to give up your Alaska license, unless you " lost" the Alaska licenses, and yes take the test and drive test also on 1st time. I do have a friend who has 2 licenses, but for Arizona and California due to living in Arizona, and work in California. He also has 2 licenses plates for his car. Note, if you have a car with an Alaskan licenses plate, state of ca. requires you to change over the plates to Ca. plates in a 30 day period, unless you plan to return to Alaska with the car.

If you MOVED to California you need to go in and take a written test. You will then surrender your alaska license , as you can only have one license.

California does not provide "enhanced" drivers licenses yet so you will need to apply and acquire a passport to drive to Alaska. It's easy to do through your local post office.

If you moved to California then i think you must turn in your alaska license within 60 days. ther is one way around this though if you keep your residence in alaska. if you keep your redience in alaska then you can keep you license.
