We can all have opinions about where is the best place on earth to live. I love the U.S., but I'm sure there are people in rural Albania who actually love their homeland.

What makes the U.S. so great?

1) CULTURE
What other country on earth could make great movies like "Kill Bill", "Blast From The Past" or "The Butterfly Effect"? Other countries have good movies, but the best American movies are overall the best in the world.

How about music? I live in Europe, and trust me, there is absolutely NOTHING that even compares to American pop or rock here. Europeans listen to drivel.

2) THE PEOPLE
Even foreigners who don't particularly like the U.S. will openly admit that Americans are the kindest, most generous people they have ever met. I know a lot of European students who studied in the U.S., and the Americans they met along the way treated them better and watched out for their welfare more than their own parents. Americans right now don't have a great international image, but we are still viewed as unfailingly kind and generous.

3) NATURAL BEAUTY

OK, a little secret: I now live in the Czech Republic. I like it here, but there is very little that is remarkably beautiful. In stark contrast, the U.S. is replete with areas of astounding natural beauty. I brought a book of U.S. national parks just to remind myself. Sure, Italy is a gorgeous country, Switzerland has some nice areas, Spain is pleasant in parts, but nothing can match the amazing diversity of the U.S.

4) LIFESTYLE
For all our faults, Americans have a good lifestyle. Sure, we spend too much time in front of the tv, but we're still able to be thrilled by small things, like hearing a song we like on the radio, or seeing that long-awatited movie finally will premier on Friday at the theatre. We can still gush like small children. That is a great character trait to keep. Europeans seem a bit jaded and blasé. You'll never hear them shouting out in un-self conscious joy, "I can't wait to see the newest Jody Foster movie!"

Americans like to be outdoors, have cook-outs, try new foods, travel to new places, and generally explore the world around them.

5) MAN-MADE BEAUTY
I was just in Dubai, and was amazed at how beautiful the skyscrapers are there. They aren't just boring boxes. They have a lot of intelligent, beautiful design to them. The U.S. excels at architecture. In many countries, buildings don't even have decent facades on them, and nothing around it is landscaped. A lot of the recent construction I see in Europe seems like it was half-finished, and no care was taken to make it aestetically pleasing.

6) TECHNOLOGY AND INVENTIONS
Well, I know you are proud of this, and it certainly is a factor in how we live our lives. America invents, and the rest of the world quickly copies.

In so many ways, America is the best country in the world.

At the end of the Cold War ,which occurred at the start of the 1990's we,the U.S. became the sole super power in the world. Right now we happen to be the most powerful miltary force in the world and the richest (in terms of purchasing power)country in the world. It would be difficult to present a logical argument to refute the above statements.

However, many people confuse being the richest and the most powerful with being the ¨best¨. The ¨best¨ at what? Peoples all over the world can and do challenge our claim to be the best in every field of human endeavour. Many countries without our immense human and natural resources achieve excellence that equals or tops our own.

While many of us are quite satisfied with our way of life, millions abroad would never tolerate the percentage of violent crime that we do . They could never be comfortable with a similar percentage of their fellow countrymen living below the poverty line that is acceptable for us. These people would never agree that our way of doing things is the best.

This is arguably the easiest place in the world to find work and make a living and ,if all goes well and without a hitch, even make a small fortune(or a big one). It is the country in the world with the most number of millionaires per capita. One could say that it is the best place in the world to become a millionaire legally. (However, that is not a guarantee that one will!) Most of us are not!

I'll go out on a limb ,though, and say a very ¨unAmerican¨ thing. Not everything can be measured by money. This may sound like heresy to a lot of my fellow citizens but a long life spent here and in many other countries and a long life spent reading and studying has taught me not that the ¨best things in Life are free¨(that is debatable)but that they aren't necessarily always from the U.S. and that they can't always be bought.

No,each person, each of us,has our own ¨best¨country. It may not even be the country we owe allegiance to. It could even be a place in the past ,a place in our memory that no longer exists. Or a place in the future. A country we wish could exist.

We may have many great inovators, that doesnt mean that our morals are in line,
We still have alot of learning and mistakes to make as a country.
The fact that we stole africans and brought them here as slaves in 1618 on...and then messed with their heads after slaughtering the native americans,...
Thats really not a good start, especially when it was on the basis of religion...
We are a teenage country...
trying to tell all the other countries how to live...

I have a feeling...that this has been done before and didnt turn out well...

I prefer the older countries who have made most of the mistakes already...

If your talking about the principals of which this country was founded I would say yes and of things today no you have way less rights today than yester year some examples would be
1:driving a car they say it's a privilege not a right I say it's a right we replaced the mode of transportation from a horse to a car, once you pass the drivers course it should become a right and that right should be taken away in only a couple of circumstances 1 drunken driving 2accidents that keep being your fault
untill your driving skills are improved but not used as an extorsion to get you to pay a fine child support or anything else for that matter
2:in state of wisc in the state constitution it states that access to any navigable waterway shall remain forever free they circumvented the law and created user fees now it costs 5-10 dollars to launch your boat if you move from lake to lake it starts getting really expensive
3:certain inalienable rights life, liberty, pursuit of happiness sound familiar?seems to me that they violate these because if more people dis -agree with the way u want to live your life and not hurting anyone in the process if they have more votes on their side than you on yours then to bad for you case in point is smokers rights and please don't say these people are being hurt by people who smoke those studies are biased in the first place secondly they cannot prove that smoking is the main cause of cancer or that it's something more enviromental
like pollutants in the air be it industrial, car emmisions or whatever i believe it's more of a control measure one group controlling what another group wants to do, that goes for marijuana as well Then what about greed in this country it's appauling ,theres alot that needs to be fixed in this country so thats why i say the u.s. is not that great anymore it could be so much more than it is if we get back to the original intentions of our forefathers and stop trying to circumvent those laws that are supposed to be self-evident

I read that 40 million Americans describe themselves as functionally illiterate. ie could not fill in a job application, read a picture book to a child and so on and so on. All those guns and drugs, such a narrow view of the world and all that fast food, poverty and pollution. And willing to bomb any country they want. So young, dumb and dangerous.

The thing that shocks me about Chuck and Sue average America is that they are usually over weight, and totally misinformed. They seem to think if you see it on tv or in a movie it is real. They will talk such nonsense with such conviction that it is embarrassing. I was once asked by a young American women what currency was used in New Zealand. When I replied dollars I was then asked if they were American dollars ! I just smiled and nodded back at her.

I think we are the best. We have the highest murder rate. We have the most amount of people in jail. Women are 10 times more likely to be raped or killed by someone she knows. America is great. A lot of *** ed up people live here. We should take over Mexico and make it a penal colony. Half the guys there deserve it anyways.

as long as people believe in regional classifications and not vie for a one world, America is the best. Because, it had been able to assert its superiority in the world by exhausting the resources and intellects of the world both west as well as third world countries. They have won olympic medals with drugs which only their labs can detect. An American can win olympics and shoot to stardom and years later confess fraud and still win hearts. A US prez can led a libid life and then he and his wife can make money by writing about it and win another prez-ship.And then visit a country with false morality like India and get a hero's welcome from young girls. Only the best can always get away with anything.
