Born again Christian John Newton wrote the song at the height of his slave trading career.
Whether sung or played only with a single instrument. Why does it give you such a passionate reaction.
Is it because it speaks to you in such an honest way? Or is it because everyone has skeletons in their closet and can relate to the need to seek and receive forgiveness?
What does Amazing Grace mean to you? Does it give you the same passionate reaction?

I have nothing against that particular song..the words are beautiful...its just that the tune is so slow and sad that you're bound to think back about something so sad deep within yourself....actually i really dont know why they play this at funerals...
For me..amazing grace ..the song..is kinda like a reality check...tells you not to forget your roots..no one person is greater than another..everyone is equal..God is the highest power...That is what the song means to me..

I ONLY EVER HEARD IT AT A FUNERAL. MY GRANDPA'S WHEN I WAS 9. IT DOES GIVE ME GOOSEBUMPS STILL WHEN I HEAR IT. I THINK IT WAS HIS FAVORITE SONG THATS WHY THEY PLAYED IT.
