We are trying to plan a vacation for sometime during the winter break. Since that time of year will be more expensive then we need something affordable but fun. We may possibly be traveling with a 3 year old as well so we would like to have some sort of child care/activity options. We live in Kansas City so flying might be the only option for a real change of scene. We have also considered going on a cruise but that would involve getting passports sometime soon. We have been going back and forth with ideas for months and cannot decide on what sounds best. I though I would see if anyone has suggestions as to what might work best for us. We are looking for something with a lot of activities or sightseeing, a good night life, culture, and (hopefully) some museums or attractions of that sort. We would not rule out camping (somewhere warm obviously) but if we stay in a hotel it should be nice. Beachy locals are a plus, but we would look into anything worthwhile.

Someplace fun, with lots of activities, beach preferred and in the US to avoid passports - what about an Orlando vacation? Or Ft. Lauderdale. There is so much to do in both areas. You can venture to one of the Universal Hotel properties which offer "beach" by pool and convenient transport to and from the parks. Not to mention the Nickelodeon aspect the kiddies love so much. Just returned this summer and had a blast with the family. It really has something for everyone. Check out Citywalk for night life and great restaurants like Emerils. Just reserve there in advance. Happy Vacationing!

Puerto Vallarta[PVR] Mexico can be really cool that that time of the year. Since I don't own any kids I know nothing of traveling with them But I did spend a week in Puerto Vallarta once and loved it.
The Rio Cuale basically separates the new town and their modern hotels from the old town and the older hotels . There are some great restaurants in the old town including one that specializes in doing the classic waiter prepared at the tableside dishes such as Chateaubriand,Steak DIane, Caesar Salad ,Bananas Foster and all at Mexican prices
Have Fun

I am not sure if your little one is too young for this but Beaches resorts in Jamaica is a fabulous family vacation with sesame street characters. The resort is all inclusive -- meal, drinks, watersports. and Jamaica from MCI is probly close to $320 per person roundtrip right now.
