GLADIATOR

It's AWFUL! I can't believe that it won awards and praise! The history was vastly in error, Russell Crowe did an exceedingly poor job, the CGI was murky and dreadful, and Joaquin Phoenix was no more a Roman emperor than he was Johnny Cash!

Other overrated films are:
"Titanic" (James Cameron version)
"Ray"
"I Walk the Line"
"Independence Day" (with Will Smith)
all of the "Home Alone" franchise that made so much money
"The DaVinci Code" (Thanks for reminding me!)
"The Blair Witch Project" (I figured it was a hoax when I saw part of the documentary on Sci Fi Channel.)
"The Exorcist" (The medical tests were more horrifying than the rest of it. Note: I was around when it first hit the theaters. The novel is better.)

If it wasn't almost 4 a.m., I'd remember lots more I'm certain. Maybe I'll come back later today and add some.

Totally agree that Gladiator was WAY over-hyped. If you want to see better Roman-type movies take a look at Spartacus, Cleopatra, and the 300 Spartans (the original, not the new 300 movie).

The X-Men and Fantastic 4 movies were all pieces of cinematic fecal matter. Well, X2 I let slide because it was closer to how the X-Men are supposed to be like.

Pirates (all of them) were big-budgeted, over-hyped, over-blown, craptastic flotsam.
Napoleon Dynamite was long, boring and crappy.
Bad Santa and the remake of the Bad News Bears were horrible.
Harry Potter 5 was a jumbled mess that didn't make any sense.
Superman Returns was stupid.

And there are WAY too many others to get into.

An old one - Balck Hole. I saw it when it first released (showing my age now, aren't I?)
Billed as the most expensive film ever made (of that time), but I was bored to tears due to a non-storyline and great special effects which did not make any sense.

Recent one? Shrek 3!

i like your record different than for Forrest Gump, between the performing and tale there is rather no evaluation... i could say Shawshank is the puffed up one (IMDB has it because of the fact the #a million action picture of all time!!?? i be attentive to this is close yet #a million? besides this is impossible for a #a million ranked action picture to be underrated.) i will say Twilight for puffed up, can't think of of something intense at this 2nd... yet underrated... actual Romance (the forged in this action picture is basically organic awesomeness) on line casino (constantly in Goodfellas' shadow) the squaddies Rounders street to Perdition (My #a million maximum underrated action picture. i in my opinion have not any thought why this action picture isn't in greater peoples favorites record... this is a appropriate action picture rather. i do no longer rank many video clips 10/10, yet this one I do with out hesitating)

Superman Returns was a turd of a movie. It was waaaay overhyped because everybody expected a miracle or something after Singer came off the X-men franchise to work on it. It was boring and...well, it was boring. That's the biggest insult you can give a movie.

They played Gothika on the telly today. I...passed out after 20 minutes.

Oh, and the Grudge (Japanese version...okay, and the english version too). NOT SCARY! Why the heck do people keep telling me it's so scary? And the japanese plot made no sense at all. Bah.

The Searchers
The Deer Hunter
Easy Rider

There are more, for the most part, especially with Easy Rider i can appreciate why they were so good at the time, but now, i find them a grind... soooo bad.

The searchers!!! don't get me started... how sad! "that'll be the day" my god how many times did i hear that past it fool roll that line out...

Not a very constructive answer but...

Well..."DaVinci Code" comes to mind immediately...but the whole thing was over-hyped!
I always hate to admit this; but I hate "Gone With The Wind"!
It was long, boring, and even the actors and actresses I like were awful!

There are a few, but an older one would have to be picnic at hanging rock, and the latest would have to be Mr & Mrs Smith, they built it up so much and I just saw it and thought yeah ok it alright, over kill, over acting, very slow start and a confused plot, but hey, each to their own!
