Al Gore won it for something that has nothing to do with peace whatsoever. Does this cheapen or make moot the Nobel Peace Prize in any way?

Carter won for his camp David accords that promoted peace between Israel and the West Bank! If you look at those two you will see they have been a perfect example of peace for the last 30 years since!

Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.

Al Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday, and the former vice president used the attention to warn that global warming is "the greatest challenge we've ever faced."

Not really. it is often given to people who the Nobel committee felt made a contribution to the welfare of the world. Last year it was won by someone who pioneered micro finance in poor countries and Mother Teresa won for her work among the poor in India. Since we have so little peace, it is hard to find a peacemaker every year.

As the climate changes in the next decades, there will be further changes in all continents. If there are food shortages due to climate changes, coupled with the inability to transport food from other areas due to the inevitable fuel shortages, who is to say that peace will not be impacted? Any work towards preserving a healthy environment and atmosphere on this planet then contributes towards peace.

You didn't watch the movie, did you?

That is one of the central points of the movie: that mass migrations lead to political strife and war. It's not like he made that stuff up either: this is the result of a global effort at contigency planning that accepts the remote possibility that nothing is done to prevent what could likely happen.

And for the idiots: Arafat shared the prize with Rabin for ending 40 years of bloodshed. Unfortunately, Rabin was not long for this world thanks to Israeli terrorists. I can't imagine why you'd poke your head into that mess just to get crap on your head.

The concept of the Nobel Peace Prize was cheapened years ago. Gore winning it just happens to be yet another cherry on top of what a crock of garbage it is and has continually been.

That was done a long time ago when they gave Arafat the worlds worst terrorist and Gorbachev a mass murdering dictator the peace prize and over looked Ronald Reagan who was instrumental in bringing down the Berlin Wall. The commucrats for this country even say he helped but was not most instrumental in that happening. Here is what it says the requirements are for winning the Peace prize; The standard for the Peace Prize portion requires that the recipient “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” Gorf did none of these. He did not bring any countries together in a peaceful brotherhood, he did not abolish any armies of any nation, and he did not support any peace movement or group.

No. The Nobel Peace Prize has been a joke now for a long time.

Example: Yasser Arafat, Nobel Prize recipient.

Yasser Arafat tried to overthrow the Jordanian Government.
Yasser Arafat was responsible for the first Lebanese civil war in the late 70's.
Yasser Arafat organized the terrorist organizations Black September and the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

Yasser Arafat died after having been one of the most violent men of the 20th century, responsible for deaths and instability throughout the Middle East.

...and they gave him a Peace prize?

They are very nearly the dumbest people alive.

I was just asking what is says for our society when Al Gore gets the Nobel Peace Prize and Larry Craig gets inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame. It just seems like the whole world is upside down!

Oh yeah. I'm checking my Cracker Jacks boxes carefully for my Nobel Peace Prize. And my Oscar should be in my next box of Frosted Flakes.
