Negligence is against the law! Spoiling them is not, but in the long run you (the parent) will pay the consequences when they do become brats, then you'll wish you had disciplined them and taught them that they can't always get what they want, and they'll be thanking you for the good upbringing. Brats pay the consequences as they grow into adults when they realize that things don't come so easy and they won't appreciate the fact that they had to learn that the hard way. So do yourself and your child a favor teach them right from wrong and discipline them when they need it. Don't spoil them, that should be left up to grandparents.

Well gee Jill's answer is quite discriminating isn't it. I know alot homeschooled and private school kids that are absolutely horrible because they are socially messed up. My husband went to private school and those rich kids were able to score drugs much more so because they had the cash. Good Grief!!! My kids go to public school. I homeschooled them for only one year and saw what I was doing to them socially so I put them back in public school. They are neither spoiled nor labeled as brats. Yes they are kids and get in trouble. Yes I have a mouthy teenager who tests me but he is juat a normal kid.
About 20 years ago a mother and father thought their 2 year old was possessed by satan and put the baby in the oven and burned her to death. I have to say that is one of the worst ones I have heard of. Although I guess you could say any act of neglect is no worse then another. Its all bad.

Worst case of parenting is not loving your child. I just read this quote," love your kids, but make them so others will love them also". In other words, spoil them if you want but don't allow them to grow up to be brats,

Child cruelty, physical and sexual abuse,it will often scar the child for life. Anyone found guilty of doing that to a child who cannot fight back, should be locked up indefinitely.
