Who else thinks the Israeli/Palestinian talks are being held because the West is looking toward war with Iran?

I don't mean for this to be overly-provocative--a two state solution in Israel with some sort of international arbitration over high holy sites is clearly in the best interests of world peace. But something tells me that part of the reason this is being encouraged by the US at this juncture is because the West is going to try to build a coalition against Iran, and it would be bad if Israel could be used as a negative rallying point (particularly if Israeli bases/the Israeli military had to be used in the event of military operations--this would really polarize potential Arab allies, including the very important Gulf Arab states which have no interest in seeing Iran become a major local theocratic power). I really think instability over the oil fields of Iraq, internal dissent, and Pan-Islamic rhetoric could result in a terrible conflict in the region with Iran right at the center of the storm--given a chance, that state could be worse for the world than Nazi Germany.

No' I don't. I have seen enormous changes in the Country over the past 30 years, from idealistic Zionists who laid down their lives in their thousands for Israel, as a backlash against the horrors of WWII. The current crop of youngsters are a different breed; the population is no longer the remnants of Nazi Germany's murderous attacks across Eastern & Central Europe. For example, the Russian, Ethiopian, Sudanese, American - & many of the British - ex-pats, have no concept of what life was like immediately before, during or after WWII.
Further, Israel truly has become a Western democracy (with 7,000,000 people squeeezed onto a piece of land the size of Wales, that is no small achievement, in just 60 years), with material aspirations & a desire to take a leading place on the World's stages of commerce & industry
I believe that, simply put, the bulk of the secular Israeli population is tired of seeing its young men & women being slaughtered; tired of the daily barrage of rockets that hit the South of the country; tired of the way that living with the constant threat of War affects our children & young people. I also have no doubt, that Israel could take out Iran!
Finally, I am unconvinced that Iran would ever use the nuclear capability it is developing, on Israel - or it takes out Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Jordan & Lebanon as well!

I think this is the part of the problem with this scenario, people like you are always looking for means other then good to create confusion and contradiction to start something that isn't there. For GS why don't you let it rest and take it for what it is, something that's good for once.
